2026 Free Agency & Trades - Rumors, Losses and Additions

Does this forum think AJ is worth a first?

I don’t. He’s been declining for 2 years, has a massive contract, and at a distance the first round of 2027 looks much better than the first round in 2026. And even this year it looks like one of 3 or 4 good right tackles will be there when the Pats are picking. I’d prefer one of them to 2 to 3 years of Brown. I would prefer Brown to the WRs who will be available at the end of this years first, but that’s not saying much.
In general I believe blue chip WRs are overvalued by the league. It’s why I always seem so down on trading for them or overpaying them in FA. Possibly the single most overvalued position in the NFL..
Especially with an OC like Josh and a QB like Drake.

Would yall be happy if they give up a first for Brown?

I'd rather not give up our 1st. But Vrabel knows him better than anybody and Vrabel knows what he brings to an offense. I'll let Vrabel decide what he's worth.
I do love his physicality and toughness when hand fighting with CBs and Ss. I also love how smart of a route runner he is especially in traffic. The guy isn't the fastest
but he uses route guile and physical play to always seem to get open. He's learned his craft.

I don't particularly want to give up a 1st AND pay a receiver. But at the end of the day, he unquestionably upgrades their WR room. I probably wouldn't do it if I were the GM, but they seem resigned to it.

Also, if you told me at the 2025 draft that the Pats would be picking at the 31 spot, I'd have laughed you out of the room. I might not love the idea of parting with it, but he's probably worth the 31st pick. The question is: 31 and what else?

If he were 25 I’d get it a little more. But guys with his play style tend to fall off a cliff around 30.
And WRs like him tend to be benefit an unimaginative OC, and a mediocre QB a lot more than Josh and Drake. Tannehill probably needed a guy like AJ. Same with Hurts. Yeah he would make the offense next year better. Over the next 5 years though it would be a lot better if they can hit on a Tackle in the draft.
And a starting tackle will be available this year at 31.

I think the cost will end being a 2nd rounder maybe some sort of later round conditional other pick or pick swap.

I'm still not %100 sold but what are we going to get that's better?

If Vrabel gambles on him and it already seems like he's gambling on Landry to be healthier this year. Then those two moves could make or break us if edge1 and WR1 is better than last year and we stay relatively healthy then we will win it all.

Did pats pick up an earlier rd 2 in some trade or another, as i doubt philly is as interested in the 62nd-ish pick vs something in high 30’s low 40’s
Lets see what happens. For the 62nd i would take a chance on AJ Brown, but fixing the o-line before Maye gets killed is top priority, so any draft capital that can be used for that comes first

Speaking of Maye, did it ever come out that he was injured for SB? We all suspected but did they ever officially say?

AJ isn't getting traded until June so we are talking unknown 2027 picks

Recent trades would indicate that Brown is worth a first round pick. But it also seems as if there's not a market for him that would require paying current "market value" for him due to multiple reasons, and I wouldn't want the team to give up on a 1st next year that could be much higher in the round than this year's pick.

I would have been willing to (grudgingly) part with 31. I don't want to part with next year's #1, as it will likely be a better pick, and in what will almost certainly be a better draft.

I'd give a 2 and a 4 next year. Maybe even a 2027 2 and 2028 3 that could become a 2 under specific conditions.
