Are you happy with the Drake Maye pick?

Thanks! I've been around. Been a few years though, folks may or may not remember me, it's cool either way. Had a kid and a new job to deal with and between that and the Pats level of play... yeah. But as we look forward at our baby faced QB and the reality of how absolutely stacked the Pats are for not just this year but for the foreseeable future, I've officially hit the point where I can't talk about the team to my coworkers anymore without coming across as obnoxious :D. They loved it when the Pats were terrible and were very ok with the preseason expectations I had of them maybe hitting 10-7. Right now hearing that if I had to pick a Super Bowl pairing today it'd be Seahawks Patriots, given they're the only two teams with a top 10 offense and defense, top 5 passer rating QB, even or better win percentage vs other teams with winning records, and QBs on the right side of 35? They definitely don't want to hear it :D. So I guess what I'm saying is the same thing I think many Pats fans across the country are saying right now... it's good to be back.
Glad to see you posting again! :thumb:

At this stage 2025 Drake Maye > 2001 Tom Brady.
That’s no knock against Tom either. Because 2017 Tom Brady is still > 2025 Drake Maye
Think of the future though holy crap!!!

Maye is a combo of Brady/Manning/Rodgers or whatever flavor you want to put into it. It's quite remarkable.

It's going to be quite rigorous to root for a team with another 6'4" QB that has tremendous pocket presence, a willingness to take coaching, and a fierce desire to win.

But I think I'm up to the challenge.

This is what Chat said:

Overall Era-Adjusted Verdict

✔ Marino 1984:

Still the more historically seismic season.
He demolished his era by a margin few QBs ever have.

✔ Maye 2025:

One of the most impressive second-year QB seasons of the last decade, and when you adjust for supporting cast and efficiency, he is performing:

  • at Marino-level efficiency
  • with far fewer mistakes
  • with a weaker team
  • in a different offensive ecosystem
  • as the CENTER of a franchise rebuild

If Maye maintains this trajectory for a full season, he will finish with a season statistically comparable to:

  • Mahomes 2018
  • Burrow 2021
  • Herbert 2020 (rookie year) but better
  • Marino 1984 (on the efficiency side, not the volume side)

A couple of Hoyer points:

Belichick always told us the season starts after Thanksgiving

Pats are in a position to take advantage of post-Thanksgiving games

One of the best ways to evaluate a young QB is how he behaves in bad situations

Maye's first year was a bad situation and he handled it professionally

In the two post-game pressers after two losses this year he was as professional as you could want

A little bit of ear candy for the Drake Maye groupies:

With the limited amount we've seen him play in not so great weather, it shows his lack of experience with it. that is a test he still needs to pass.

Brady got better as his career moved forward. He adapted to the cold weather by wearing the scuba suit, etc..
I felt like Drake didn’t do all that great when it was raining. His throws were quite a bit off in the beginning of the Tampa Bay game.
