I agree and I firmly believe the Patriots do as well. I don't think there's any chance Maye is named the week 1 starter unless it's due to injury to others. I believe the comments about not having named a QB yet are intentional to not only give due praise to Maye and encourage him, but also to light a fire under Brissett.

But I see no chance that anyone except Jacoby Brissett is under C for week 1. They literally brought him here to be the sacrificial lamb of the 2024 season. The hope is the OL can at least patch it together to play somewhat respectable before Maye takes the reigns. Do I think they can get to respectable? Probably not, but here's to hoping.

Mac wasn’t ruined. He was at his absolute best Andy Dalton. And he may eventually reach that peak. He is still in the league. Remember Dalton did have some studs around him.
Drake Maye is a completely different animal. He is a guy who will eventually go out and take a a Super Bowl.

I caught a ton of heat for years for saying it, but it was so obvious what Mack was from before he was even drafted. He’s soft as pudding.

Maye has the mental fortitude to fail, take the criticism, and come back stronger.

It also helps to keep the starting QB a secret to the very last minute so the opposing team will have less time to prepare. BB comes to mind.

So I should believe you instead of my lying eyes?
I'm sure Drake is so special that he can take a beating game after game and not be effected by it at all. So yes, let's throw him right out there and let him survive the Jim Plunkett treatment. :rolleyes:

I’m not advocating for Drake to go in before he’s ready mentally.

But if he’s running the offense better than Brissett he needs to be playing. He can handle it. Mack was pudding. Drake Maye is a dog who bites back when struck.

Yeah Mac turned into a puddle when things went south. Drake, his is NC career always bounced back and rarely showed any negative emotions. Wipe it clean, on to the next play. Thats the big difference.

Anybody that 180s based on one performance, good or bad, is an idiot.

I fail to understand the current zeitgeist, because "we" seem to have a bunch of hothouse flowers who can't see
anything but dark clouds or any possibility that we will ever be a good team again. It makes me sick.

If you're a fan you stick with your team.

I certainly hope that you are right about Drake as much as you are wrong about Mac.
Drake has not taken live fire snaps yet in the NFL, so we don't really know.
The point is that the OL is still a big question mark. I don’t want to subject Drake to the same trash that Mac had is last 2 years. It ruined him.

you misunderstood me, but I probably could have said that better. the "We" is the general fan-base and media that overreact to every little thing. they were talking on 98.5 (I know, I know, I was in the car) and joked how after PS Game 1 they got lots of Milton calls ("milton mania") then none after PS Game 2 on Milton.
sports talk shows have to fill time daily, so there's shtick is both predicable and understandable in a way.

there's the type of fans that stick with their team (you know, they kind that post on message boards daily year-round about it) and there's the more reactionary types out there.

wasn't saying the majority here would do that, but you know they'll be a lot of posting either way, good performance or bad.

I got it wasn't personal and wasn't thinking you needed a lecture or anything, but responding to the overall, hugely negative whiners that seem
to be endemic in the fanbase at the present time. I don't know what percentage of people fit that description, but It's too many. Some of them
have gone hysterical.

I was more or less responding to all of them. The bandwagon people. I get why people have their doubts, but the level of
doom and gloom seems way out of whack with the reality of the situation.

Yeah, we fell off the mountain top and now our glory days are behind us. Let's just all curl into a fetal ball and die complaining.

I expect the first month will likely be bad, but at some point this season the arrow is going to start pointing up again. Anybody that
thinks we have no shot for 3 years or whatever can kiss my ass. I just want that to be known--- there are legitimate reasons to have
hope with this team, so grow a set.

Maybe that's a good thing. I won't feel so disappointed if he bust or I'll be totally awestruck if he turns a out to be a top tier NFL QB, as he should be.

Couldn’t agree more, where did all these scared pink hats come from? Payton Manning set a rookie record for ints in his first season, and I believe Troy Akiman set the record at the time for sacks, not to mention what Bledsoe went through as a rookie. There’s not even the slightest amount of information on venture a guess on Maye yet.
