What is the NFL thinking?

The NFL is a business. He was the biggest streaming artist in four of the last six years. The NFL is expanding globally into every continent, and that is how you expand your business, featuring one of the most popular singers on the planet. Whether you (or I) listen to him is irrelevant.

Whoah whoah whoah. That sounds just a little bit too rational. 😂

I didn't understand anything Kendrick Lamar sang either. Bad Bunny is the fifth ranked artist in America right now. This is probably a case where you some like it but it still makes sense

The biggest that their own fans don’t know or care about.

By this logic they should show soccer games…

No.

Right. They already have those fans. So you expand beyond to those who will tune in knowing nothing about football and perhaps get interested in the game. They are playing soon in France, Australia. Their “own fans” care nothing about those things as well. They are trying to expand the base. Isn’t hard to understand.

The SB is an American event, if he’s going to perform at halftime then it should be in English, not in Spanish.

Doesn't bother me one bit. I don't watch the halftime show anyway because I like to go outside regardless of how cold it is in Northeast Ohio & get a little fresh air. Helps recharge the batteries & get ready for the second half. I'm sure there are plenty of people that enjoy Bad Bunny & for those that don't then don't watch. Pretty simple. I can find plenty of other things to bitch about other than which artist is preforming at he SB.

I'm trying to think of the last half time show. I actually tuned into and liked. I'm drawing a blank.
Halftime shows in general, piss me off because i'm a purist that likes to leave the field prepared for football good for them to play the football game on.

Why not Sioux or Navajo?

The SB half time show has had all kinds of performers from hard rock to pop rock to soul, R&B, Rap etc etc. all tastes have been catered to. This is just one more.

Don’t care one way or another. Good news is you aren’t forced to watch it

Before anyone gets all up in arms over Bad Bunny, ask yourself: What was the last truly good Super Bowl halftime show, and how many truly good halftime shows have their been?

The answer: They've been few and far between.

The NFL is pretty hypocritical in their wokeness and advocacy but this is not a woke move, it's a purely capitalistic move. Bad Bunny a globally-popular artist that is going to keep people tuned into the broadcast, period.

If you don't like it, you can always go watch the Puppy Bowl or something else. Personally, I will be off in another room, pacing uncontrollably. If the Pats are in the Super Bowl, I don't care if they were able to bring Elvis or Tupac back from the dead to perform, I have more important business than any halftime show.

Part of our friend group does like to watch the halftime show and the commercials and then discuss the funny ones and the performance.

I will not dictate what we will watch tomorrow even at our own home, but I am pretty sure of what the consensus will be, and we will watch the alternative show (birds of a feather, etc).

Speaking purely from a business perspective, the owners have made it clear for decades that the Kommissar makes these decisions almost without any direction or input, and Roger will do just that. They will let him continue until it starts to hurt their business or growth slows. Only then will they act.

The growth in the value of their franchises and revenue generated over the last couple of decades has been immense.

That said, diving into this non-football stuff, the way they have, especially since Covid by forcing teams to put messages on fields and helmets, etc. is generally not popular. Bad Bunny is a continuation of it and eventually the public writ large will speak.

Or not.

As much as you want to make it “woke” and political, it’s just business. Capitalists should understand that.

The NFL made it clear it chose Bad Bunny as the Super Bowl 60 halftime performer to help expand the league's global reach, and that desire has outweighed any concerns by politicians or fans in the eyes of the league.

In October, commissioner Roger Goodell defended the decision. "He's one of the most popular entertainers in the world," Goodell told reporters. "It's carefully thought through. I'm not sure we've ever selected an artist where we didn't have some blowback or criticism. ... We're confident it's going to be a great show. I think it's going to be exciting and a united moment."
