This whole media bruhaha about micah parsons and his very inelegant, to say it nicely, way of answering that question about Mike McCarthy that makes it look like he's putting him down( and he just well might be )leads me to another underappreciated thing about bill. people used to say he was dictatorial because his players answered questions so robotically for the most part. but the way I look at it is this. seeing how this whole thing is just getting talked about and talked about and talked about and players are getting asked about it,"oh what do you think of Micah Parsons? oh my God what did he say about Mike McCarthy?" etc. Bill hates distractions. so when players keep getting asked about some silly, idiotic, or careless comment that one of their teammates made, it is not a positive for a team. I'm not saying it keeps them from preparing, it just gets them annoyed and riled up either against that teammate or it's is a possible division between teammates that you don't need. so bill wasn't always dictating to them, except maybe in certain cases, "you say this or that" necessarily but he was giving them guidance on how to handle questions so that when they got to the point where they were asked controversial questions they knew how to handle it. if anything,I would think players would appreciate that because answering controversial questions in the heat of the moment, or at any point can be disconcerting. and it's comforting in a way to know how to handle those so that you don't trap yourself in those situations.
tl:dr sometimes it's nice to be able to say," my spouse won't let me or my parent won't let me" instead of being asked for your real thoughts or opinions or wants.
