Agreed.

I wonder if Kerry will fly commercial coach or hop on his private jet to Paris?

I may take bets...

His private jet?

He'll take a US government private jet.

All upper level government officials do that.

Speaking of which....

Obama-era hawk Samantha Power reportedly tapped as US foreign aid body head. Critics ask: Libya, Syria & Yemen legacy, anyone?

Wow......never saw THAT coming...... :coffee:

The Corporate War Machine controls the Harris administration for sure. Looks like we are going to hear a lot of "protect American Interests" for the next 4 years.

"We need to bomb more people in more countries to protect American Interests, and the American Interest is corporations making money off of taxpayers for unnecessary, unwinnable, endless wars. Trillions more dollars, please! Thank you, Mr Taxpayer.....now put your mask back on and get back in your hole...."

Circumlocuting around New England...

She was horrific for Michigan. HORRIFIC. Presided over a huge exodus in jobs and young people. The teachers union got her elected twice and she fucked them over both times. People are dumb.

So she’s a choice because of her involvement with the auto industry during her 8 years as governor...
You know, during which we the people had to bail out said auto industry based in Michigan...

Yeah, that computes.

The Senate confirmed Dr. Rachel Levine as assistant health secretary, making her the first openly transgender federal official approved by the Senate.

The vote was 52 to 48, largely along party lines, with GOP Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine joining all 50 Democrats.

The pediatrician and former Pennsylvania secretary of health helped steer the state’s response to Covid-19. She has also worked to increase awareness of equity issues that the LGBT community faces and is a professor of pediatrics and psychiatry at Penn State College of Medicine.

Dr. Levine acknowledged that there were “significant challenges” with testing, contact tracing and protective equipment, both in Pennsylvania and in other states. She said she looked forward to working with local, state and federal officials in her new post.

The hearing turned tense when Sen. Rand Paul (R., Ky.) asked Dr. Levine if she supports hormone therapy or sex-reassignment therapy in minors with gender dysphoria.

In response to Mr. Paul’s questions, Dr. Levine said a variety of issues must be considered in treating minors. Treatments can include hormone therapy and sex-reassignment surgery. Medical treatment for gender dysphoria is rare in children.
Her confirmation Wednesday came a day after the Senate approved Vivek Murthy, President Biden’s pick for surgeon general, by a 57-to-43 vote, marking his second stint in the post, which he held from 2014 through 2017. Dr. Murthy, who was co-chairman of Mr. Biden’s Covid-19 advisory board, has said he would use his position to provide science-based guidelines for ending the coronavirus pandemic.

I still can't believe how outrageous that is that this "doctor" thinks it is appropriate for children to have sex reassignment surgery and hormone therapy.

Vanita Gupta Narrowly Confirmed as Associate Attorney General

Senate approves longtime civil-rights lawyer as No. 3 Justice Department official, with just one Republican joining Democrats in 51-49 vote

The Senate confirmed Vanita Gupta as associate attorney general, installing a longtime civil-rights lawyer as the Justice Department’s No. 3 official as the agency launches the kind of sweeping investigations of local police departments that she has long championed.
Ms. Gupta was confirmed in a 51-49 vote, overcoming Republicans’ objections about her views on policing and past criticism of conservatives. Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska was the lone Republican to support Ms. Gupta’s confirmation.

“The White House needs to make a better choice for this key post,” said Sen. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.). Ms. Murkowski, who met personally with Ms. Gupta, said she was “impressed with not only her professional credentials” but also with her passion for the work she performs.

Ms. Gupta, 46 years old, was head of the Justice Department’s civil rights division during the Obama administration and most recently president of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, where she vocally criticized Trump administration policies ranging from immigration to federal judicial appointees.

Her confirmation comes as Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the Justice Department would investigate whether the Minneapolis Police Department engages in patterns of unconstitutional conduct, a federal civil-rights probe Ms. Gupta had advocated as leader of the Washington-based advocacy group.

She was a driving force behind the Obama administration’s use of those probes, known as pattern-or-practice investigations, which she has described as a powerful tool to force change and promote police accountability. Ms. Gupta said in an ethics agreement that she would stay out of decisions on matters she previously lobbied the Justice Department to investigate, suggesting she wouldn’t be involved in the Minneapolis probe. But her selection as associate attorney general is another sign of the Biden Justice Department’s willingness to use its power to hold entire cities accountable for police misconduct.

As associate attorney general, Ms. Gupta will oversee some of the department’s civil-rights work, as well as the lawyers who argue for the Biden administration in court and those who allocate federal grant money to state and local authorities, among other roles.

Republicans pressed her during her March confirmation hearing about how she would approach several controversial topics, including whether she supported moving some police resources to other areas, an idea that at times has been referred to as “defunding the police.”

Ms. Gupta has backed a range of police-accountability measures but told senators she didn’t support stripping departments of funding and had long pushed for them to receive more resources for things like body cameras and wellness and safety programs.

Prominent police chiefs and law-enforcement organizations supported her confirmation, saying she is someone who would consider their viewpoints even when they don’t align with her own.
