Bill Belichick potentially looking at UNC job

So North Carolina fired 73 year old Mack Brown and hires 72 year old Bill Belichick, I guess North Carolina like old coaches! I honestly think it is going to end up in a disaster but I wish Belichick the best of luck, he is going to need it!

To me BB is the GOAT of all time of head coaches.
If your a parent of a child looking to go to college ,Who would you want other than BB to coach your child.
BB wants Discipline, Selflessness, Caring about your Teammate and your Community.

And If you want to "be coached up" In the game .......Who else you got ?

I don’t disagree with what you’re saying but that doesn’t matter much anymore. It’s all NIL & programs better have that lined out.

Well, according to my local news they are finalizing the paperwork.

I will personally correct any Tarheel who thinks BB has only six rings which they said to the reporter.

This is by far the most surprising news of the season/off-season.

Well, you are wrong on that
True.

It was mainly about money from my viewpoint. Apparently state colleges have loads of money at their discretion.

And am not used to a potential employee telling the boss how to spend more money.
Still seems weird to me.

Alums are very influential at some universities and can steer things their way.

I'm torn about this. If this happens, I actually think it's pretty likely that he fails.

On one hand, Belichick is by all accounts an amazing teacher. But a college team has a lot more kids, with lower football IQs, and a higher ratio of players to coaches, so this benefit is diluted.

But the bigger deal is his genius at strategery is nerfed because of the lack of practice time and time in the film room. The college game is much more heavily weighted towards the Jerrys and Joes as opposed to the Xs and Os. You don't have enough practice time and repetitions to get a complex defensive scheme to the point where the players are playing fast, on instinct. And he can't lean on savvy vets, because there are none in the college game.

He'll still be a plus at game management and player development, but to my mind his biggest advantage is castrated even more than it has been in the last several years in the NFL.

It seems to be true, according to reports. This is one of the most fascinating developments in football in years. I think it's great and I'll be glued to NC games next season. Many doubt him, but I'd wager he'll be a success. I really do wish him all the luck in the world. It's a bold move but that's our Bill, the man has no fear and I salute him hugely for that.

Will NC "pony up" ?
I imagine a deal wouldn't have been agreed to without some sort of guarantees in that regard - which is likely why the negotiations took as long as they did.

Also, there are some UNC alumni with some pretty damned deep pockets.

You make good points about the veterans and complicated defenses. But...
College football has always been recruiting first and coaching 2nd. Bill should be able to draw players nationwide with his reputation and promise to run a program that
will have his seniors ready for pro ball. If the NIL money is there, and I'm sure he checked that out, he should draw more than his share of the best players.
His transfer portal is going to be lit now that players can transfer once without sitting out a year.
