Boston Bruins hockey

Well... I guess we should all take solace in the fact that means one less 1st round draft pick for the Bruins to fuck up.
It's strange, we still don't know what's coming back to the bruins. The thought of sweeney running the draft again. With all these new picks. Is depressing.

marchand isn't supposed to be ready to play until the playoffs. And he's a free agent after this year. So he could end up anywhere next year anyway.
Marchand and Sweeney supposedly had a sit down during the 4 Nations tourney. I wonder if perhaps Marchand told him he would prefer not to wrap up his career on a team in the midst of a rebuild. Just a theory.

Of all players Marchand was the one I thought they would never trade plus he’s their captain. And sending him to Florida is a slap in the face to Bruins fans. I’m literally pissed about this trade and I don’t usually get upset over sports like this, unfucking believable! 🤬

He's said publically. He wanted to stay. I think this goes back to swillman. I believe Marchand didn't like how he handled the contract situation and didn't think. He was worth what he got. Because he was unproven. So that led Marchand. To take a hard stand on his contract demands.

I feel the same way. For me. He was the only reason to watch this year.

Could it be that the Bruins are doing Marchand a favor by trading him to a cup contender much like the Ray Bourque trade 25 years ago?

That's my first impression.

Thought crossed my mind. Also signing him back as a FA later.

Tkachuk is out indefinitely, possibly the season, so FL needed Marchand.

Well he does have a ring to his credit so I’m not sure that is why they traded him. Playing for Florida isn’t a lock either, especially this year as there are some good teams that could give them trouble, Laffs not being one of them. 😆

The #NHLBruins have acquired defenseman Daniil Misyul from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for forward Marc McLaughlin.

The #NHLBruins have acquired defenseman Henri Jokiharju from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a 2026 fourth-round pick.

Do we know what the Bruins got for Marchand?
2027 conditional 2nd round pick

Edit: Listened to Sweeney presser and it sounds like the condition is if Marchand plays 50%of playoff games it's a 1st. Also will be 3-4 weeks before he can play.

It’s actually 25% of their playoff games and they have to get past the 2nd round for it to be a first. Sweeney corrected himself later on that part.

This is pure speculation on my part. But here is what I believe happened with Marchand. We heard he did not want to be traded. But they could not come to an agreement on a contract extension. The Bruins wanted to respect his wishes but knew they could not let him walk in free agency and not get anything in return. At some point, likely today, Sweeney told Marchand was going to be moved so where do you want to go. Best opportunity for Marchand to win a cup this year is likely in Florida so that's where he chose. Bruins in turn took a lesser offer and traded him to a team they probably would not have otherwise. Possibly somewhere in that conversation was a discussion about talking contract again come summer time. I would not rule out him coming back next year but as I said this is all speculation on my part, he could be pissed at the Bruins for trading him for all I know.

Personally I wish Marchand well. He helped win a cup in Boston during my fandom. Sweeney did the right thing today. This team was in a need in a massive overhaul and still a lot of changes are needed, possibly right at the top with Sweeney and Neely themselves. But today really needed to happen.

It’s not true, they simply couldn’t agree on a contract so they let him go and he got to choose his destination. Management didn’t have to let him go to Florida but they did because of his long history with the club.
I don't know. According to the story. He turned down a 2 and a 3 year contract offer. If I'm the bruins. I'm not giving marchand at 36. More than a 3 year deal. 3 years is more than generous. if he did turn those offers down. That would lead me to believe. He wanted out.
