And they turn around and beat Tampa on the road......
It was 3 years for $3 mil, not enough as far as he (Marchand) was concerned.I don't know. According to the story. He turned down a 2 and a 3 year contract offer. If I'm the bruins. I'm not giving marchand at 36. More than a 3 year deal. 3 years is more than generous. if he did turn those offers down. That would lead me to believe. He wanted out.
There were two offers, according to the story. The first one was a 3-year offer. The second was a 2-year deal.It was 3 years for $3 mil, not enough as far as he (Marchand) was concerned.
I never heard about the 2 year offer but ok, the offer was for $3 mil. There were two offers, according to the story. The first one was a 3-year offer. The second was a 2-year deal.
It's like they woke up out of a season long coma. I expect the roster turnover will give them a little juice temporarily similar to the coaching change earlier in the season. But there will be no playoffs and it's going to be an interesting offseason. Apparently Charlie Jacobs has already publicly stated he is supporting Sweeney and Neely after the mini roster overhaul this past week so it seems the front office is likely safe for the moment. And they turn around and beat Tampa on the road......
Yes i know. I'm the one who posted the link.I never heard about the 2 year offer but ok, the offer was for $3 mil.
The locker room will be totally different now. So that's a positive. i think there was a lot of entitlement on that team. It's like they woke up out of a season long coma. Could sneak into the playoffs... but would never expect beyond first round. It's like they woke up out of a season long coma. My thoughts exactly. This is pure speculation on my part. But here is what I believe happened with Marchand. We heard he did not want to be traded. But they could not come to an agreement on a contract extension. The Bruins wanted to respect his wishes but knew they could not let him walk in free agency and not get anything in return. At some point, likely today, Sweeney told Marchand was going to be moved so where do you want to go. Best opportunity for Marchand to win a cup this year is likely in Florida so that's where he chose. Bruins in turn took a lesser offer and traded him to a team they probably would not have otherwise. Possibly somewhere in that conversation was a discussion about talking contract again come summer time. I would not rule out him coming back next year but as I said this is all speculation on my part, he could be pissed at the Bruins for trading him for all I know.
Personally I wish Marchand well. He helped win a cup in Boston during my fandom. Sweeney did the right thing today. This team was in a need in a massive overhaul and still a lot of changes are needed, possibly right at the top with Sweeney and Neely themselves. But today really needed to happen.
That was fun to watch. At least the 3rd period. I hate Sam Bennett just a little bit more tonight. Not sure how that is even possible. What a win tonight. Down 2-0 in the third and get 3 to win it.
Glad I only watched the first half of the game. That was by far the best win of the year. it's so good to see them playing with so much energy and emotion. The pressure is off. Nobody thinks they can make the playoffs. The young players are looking to establish themselves in the league. Now they can play without pressure or fear of getting benched.
