Agree. Play the best players. Don’t act like what crappy teams do and play overpaid or traded-in guys over the best players. Barmore is better than crappy Godchaux. Bourne is better than Parker
Godcheaux and Barmore don't really play the same positions, though there is some overlap. I did (and still do) expect to see Barmore's snap counts and situations tick up.

Bourne is...maybe better than Parker. I don't love Parker, and I didn't think he would be very useful in this game. As I understand it he was cowed and dominated by Xavien Howard in Dolphins practices, and it was a big/little brother dynamic. As long as he hasn't lost his mojo I think he'll still be plenty useful going forward. Bourne is one of those guys that will always perform best as the 3rd guy. He can dominate that sub-CB and find the gaps in the zone, and "earn" a WR1/2 role, but will get swallowed up by the top DBs on most teams. Like, say, Troy Brown did (though Troy was a very different receiver, he was also like that). Maybe like a Donte Stallworth? Never could carry the load as "the guy," but it was dangerous to defend him with JAG DBs.

Bourne is better at being Bourne than Parker is at being Parker, if that makes sense.

I thought that, in general, our DL was our best group on Sunday.

Guy was firing off the ball and Godchaux was doing that weird thing where he stands his guy straight up and, I dunno, takes his leverage away or something. His style is weird, but
it's effective. I think people are still seeing the guy who struggled early last season, but he's getting it done.

That was Deatrich Wise's best game ever. Maybe he needs to play at LDE more often, but they couldn't block him.

Barmore did some things where you reach for the rewind button because you're not sure what just happened. Miami's plan to keep him blocked was to double-hold him on every play and that 90 jersey probably looks like it got washed with scissors, but the refs never noticed. There was one play where he knocked their LG Eichenberg down so hard that he did a reverse flip.

I'm going to keep watching until I can come up with a reasonable theory as to why he isn't in there way more often. So far, I got nothing. Maybe Bill doesn't like the way he can run around blocks and still get to the hole on a philosophical level. I say release the Kraken.

To me the simple scheme utilized against Miami was our biggest problem with the offensive production. I hope they open it up against Pitt.
PA, RPOs, misdirection...

Curran reports it’s Fatt Matt who is benching Bourne for being barely late to a pregame preseason mtg. The same Fatt Matt who benched their best cornerback all game in the Eagles Superbowl loss

He really needs to go. It made no earthly sense why Bill brought him back here. I thought he was going to stay behind the scenes and not coach.

I assume you guys were both complaining about the coaching when their unquestioned #1 WR was benched for a big portion of a playoff game for the hideous crime of making not-so-subtle references to the press about a guy's foot fetish?

Consistency matters. And he's been consistent on this. He banned 4 players, including 2 starters (one of whom was a superstar team captain), from the facility for a day for being late to a pre-practice meeting because of a snow/ice storm.

I'll repeat: didn't we finally get an explanation of the Butler thing, and it wasn't about discipline but a head injury that wasn't disclosed to try to leave hope alive that he might be ready to play?

Consistent garbage isn't a good thing...BB should have found someone better.

Belichick's policy has been consistent. Wasn't talking about Matt. This has been since Matt was a lower-level assistant, right through Bill's tenure in NE. Not a lot of complaining about it in the middle of the Superbowl runs and streak of AFCC appearances...

Yeah, I'm talking about FattyMatty. I'm a BB fan, but, I don't get his love for FattyMatty though.

Ok. You responded to my post about Belichick with a comment implying it was Matt, so I was clarifying.

I get that Matt is a "rocket scientist", but, that doesn't necessarily transfer to coaching.
I don't have strong opinions on Matt either way. His work seemed encouraging as he rose to prominence. I wasn't impressed with his tenure at DC, but I had a lot of questions about personnel at that time that I thought were overrated, too (especially the front seven), so it was hard to parse. He didn't strike me as likely to have success as a HC (at least on a first attempt) but my kids really liked his beard and casually followed him in Detroit, so I did a little as well, by osmosis. I was surprised to see him back on the offensive side of the ball. A little doubtful, and a lot curious.

So far I've been pretty unimpressed, but I have a hard time believing that the total vanilla we saw Sunday is more than a slow rollout of an offense that grown-ups actually run in football games they're paid actual money to play in.
If it isn't just a slow rollout, that's totally ridiculous and an off-the-charts abject failure.
If it is phase 1 of a slow rollout, that's almost definitely good news, but still a head scratcher as to why they weren't able to roll it out faster than that. And we can't judge it as a whole for at least several weeks.

His beard is badass...I will admit.

FattyMatty sucks...prove it otherwise.

That's no way to talk about our next head coach

PS - that was a joke but I cried a little inside knowing it's actually very possible

Jonnu should get involved more. Here’s a play that seems like it would work.

3 wide left in bunch formation. Jonnu in the middle of the bunch. Mac quick throw to Jonnu and let him run behind 2 blockers (Henry + Meyers). If the defense cheats too much with linebackers or strong safeties on the bunch side, audible to power run right behind Onwenu. Seems like an obvious play that would utilize Jonnu’s strength which is running with the ball in space. And punishes the defense if they don’t still defend the box.

That, and play action off 12 personnel, seem like obvious plays that Fat Matt should install more in the playbook.

Delete all the Parker plays. Both of Mac’s seasonal INTs have been Parker having zero fight for the ball. Parker hasn't shown me anything better than Nkeal which is pretty pathetic. The offense doesn’t need Parker. Maximize snaps moving forward to Meyers, Agholor, Bourne. Incredible that Parker played all game and did absolutely nothing.
