Celtics

You were saying that they were all bound to choke, now you've got them all going to the Hall of Fame...
Considering it was in their DNA and they blew chunks in Game 4 that wasn't exactly a confidence inspiring event. Also, Porzingas' injury leveled the field a little bit more. They are what they are until the prove you different. They proved everyone that this team was different. So yeah, they were bound to pee down their leg, as they had for more than half a decade.

Do you not remember they were up 2-1 against GS and winning game 4, then lost 4 straight? I do. Or losing to the 8 seed last season going down 3-0. So yeah, when you see the signs again, what are you suppose to do? Ignore it? Pretend it isn't there? Please.

Winning this title changed everything. Narratives, legacies and more.

Fair enough. The team this year seemed to have evolved to another level with Holiday and Porzingis and Derrick White's continued emergence and the better offensive flow without Marcus Smart. HOF for players other than Brown, Tatum & maybe Horford seems like a stretch to me now, but I'm optimistic that they have a good chance of winning more championships if they stay healthy.

The biggest thing they proved to me? Tatum and Brown actually do like and seemingly love each other. That is a big big thing in the NBA world. They now know exactly what they need to do to win the title. People say it's harder, for this team I think it will be easier and I also think you will see another level from Tatum and Brown that will shock everyone. They know they are able to do something special. They should play more freely and another year in the Mazzulla system. People I think are way underselling how good this team will be next year. I think they will be so much better than even this year.

How do we feel about grant Williams being in the Celtics lock room? After the team Just won a title. Cringe

The Boston Celtics finished the season with a .792 win percentage

Only Larry Bird's 1985-86 Celtics had a better record in franchise history 🍿

Stolen#

In 2022, the Celtics didn’t just lose in the Finals. They also lost #6.

A number that was retired from every team and stamped on every court. A reminder of the player who won more and sacrificed more than anyone.

2 years later, the Celtics won an NBA-best 18th championship, and it would’ve made Bill Russell so incredibly proud.

Jayson Tatum? Surpassed Bill Russell for 7th place on the Celtics all-time playoff scoring list in just his 7th season.

Joe Mazzulla? Became the youngest coach to win a championship since Bill did it for Boston in 1968.

Jaylen Brown? Won the Bill Russell Finals MVP less than a year after signing the richest deal in NBA history and investing millions of it into marginalized communities.

The 2024 Celtics? Dominant. Just like Bill’s Celtics.

This is more than an 18th banner. This is legendary. This is special.

BILL, THIS IS FOR YOU!IMG_5822.jpeg

Been watching a lot of different national shows in the wake of the title and none of the pundits are ready to give this Celtics squad their flowers for the season they've had. Ordinarily I'd chalk it up to "haters" but I'd be a big fat liar if I didn't say I always had it in the back of my mind that this team could just as easily choke it away vs. win it in every playoff round. On the flip side, I have always felt that once this team finally got over the hump and won it, it might be the start of something truly great.

I am not predicting a dynasty by any means, but a lot of great players/teams (including Michael Jordan) just had to get the monkey off their back and it cleared the path for historic runs/performances. Can I really sit here and compare this team to the 1986 Boston Celtics? No, I really can't. But if they do it again next year, I will come back here with a giant bouquet.

The 86 Celts had to face teams with bigger depth. Back then we had less teams, but today we have more teams, which spreads out the talent.

I don't see it.
The bar for the basketball hall of fame is super low. Also when considering players, you have to consider their college career, because that counts for the HoF too. Olympics too.

Horford was probably in beforehand thanks solely to playing for 17 years and winning back to back titles at Florida. The ring Monday just cements him.
Holiday is a 2-time champ. All-Star, all-defensive teams, he's a lock.
Tatum and Brown are both locks now.
White probably needs to make an all-star team, or sneak in a couple of top-3s for DPOY to get in.
Porzingas will likely get in due to him being foreign-born, all-star teams, ring.

Really, White's the only one I have trouble seeing getting in, and there's a path for him to do it. If you don't believe me, look at some of the schlubs that are in the hall of fame.

Not really, other than the Lakers. Remember, players still smoked at halftime in the 80s. You think the 3rd best Rocket on those teams, Robert Reid, could play for 10 minutes against even Jrue Holiday? No chance.

Good point.🤣🤣🤣

Yup. Arguably the only blemish on the '86 Celtics resume is that they didn't go through the Lakers in the Finals. (Houston made pretty easy work of them in the conference finals)

Yeah I dunno about all that really myself. I get that they are all friends etc and I doubt they are there without the okay, but to me, wait for the afterparty and do it there.

Question????

If Horford retires.......................................should the Celtics look at signing Nic Claxton?? Double-Double free agent.

It's very strange. he's under contract with another team.

Maybe he didn't want to fly down to Miami. :coffee:
Haha maybe but there was an afterparty in Boston that night/early morning. But yeah I doubt he was on the plane lol. Taco was there to with his kid. That was cool.
