Well it is time to discuss the first game of the season. Lots of story lines with the unveiling of banner #5, Goodell baby blue shirts and of course the game.

I have to admit that I do not know a lot about what the Chiefs did this off-season. I know their starting RB who was going to replace Charles is out for the season with a torn PCL. They also have that burner kick returner and WR. Should be a decent game early but I expect the Pats to handle their business on a celebratory night.

Andy Reid has always been good at creative game planning when he's had the time to prepare and he's had 4 months to prepare for the Pats. I expect some innovative trickeration from Reid. On D, KC plays the 3/4 with LBs who can run. If any team can harness our RBs it will be KC. KC also has Marcus Peters & Eric Berry who are pretty good DBs.

There's also this Tyreek Hill guy who can run really really fast. The Chiefs lost Jeremy Maclin this off season so Hill's touches will go way up. Hill also made All-Pro Return Specialist as a rookie in 2016. The Pats have to be aware of him at all times. Alex Smith is competent at QB. Kareem Hunt is a rookie RB who will be trying hard for extra yardage. Maybe he'll cough up a fumble or two.

BB tends not to show too much in the first game but I think Andy Reid will pull out all the stops to knock off the SB Champ. So, yeah, I'm a little worried about this game.

It is really, really hard to fear an Alex Smith led team.

Important players are back
Linebacker Dont’a Hightower,
tackle Nate Solder,
running back Rex Burkhead and
defensive end Deatrich Wise
all were not listed on the injury report after missing time during the preseason and were full participants in Monday’s practice. That means barring a setback later this week, all four should be active when the Patriots open the regular season Thursday night against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Here is the full injury report from Monday’s practice:
OUT
Cameron Fleming, OT (ankle)
Vincent Valentine, DT (knee)
LIMITED
Adam Butler, DT (knee)
Nate Ebner, S (shoulder)
Harvey Langi, LB (concussion)
Malcolm Mitchell, WR (knee)
Matthew Slater, WR (hamstring)

For those who park at Foxboro Terminals, they said on their FB page that their intention is to pass out the Goodell Clown towels from Barstools as you enter the parking lot.

I was hoping we would get some Chiefs fans on this thread. Remember that guy from last year whose Avatar was Alex Smith with a big X through his face? ROFL I liked the guy. He was the anti-Chiefs fan.

Excited to see Cooks in action. Big things are expected of him and call is spin from Tom, but he seems genuinely impressed with his attitude.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- One of the biggest questions facing the New England Patriots offense is how it will adjust without injured receiver Julian Edelman. Trade acquisition Brandin Cooks will be a big part of the plans, and quarterback Tom Brady shared what stands out to him about Cooks.

“I’ve been so impressed with his professionalism. For a 23-year-old, he has a maturity about him that, for our team and our offense, is so critical to your development,” Brady said Tuesday during his weekly interview on WEEI’s “Kirk and Callahan” program.

“It’s not like we’re satisfied if you go out and catch three or four passes. We expect to perform at a championship level every day. For a 23-year-old to understand that and to buy into that, and then to work at that level, has been very impressive from my standpoint.

“Being around a lot of young receivers, that’s one thing that’s probably held a lot of people back. Brandin, I just love working with him and [I'm] excited for him this year. He’s been out there every day. It’s taken a lot to get to this point.”

When Brady references the time it takes to get to this point, he is highlighting the trust he works hard to build with each of his pass-catchers. The goal is that they see the same picture he does, so he can rely on them to be in the correct spot with no hesitation.

That hasn’t manifested itself in game action yet, as Cooks slipped under the radar during the preseason. He played in two games, totaling 48 snaps and catching two passes for 15 yards from Brady. He was targeted three times and dropped one pass.

Last week, when asked how he was feeling physically through the grind of training camp and the preseason, Cooks flashed a magnetic smile.
“I feel amazing. I’m 23 years old,” he said. “I feel like I’m playing Pop Warner again, just running around, having fun.”

In the process, he’s impressed Brady.

“Brandin’s done such a great job acclimating himself to our system and doing everything the coaches have asked,” Brady said on WEEI. “He shows up to work every day ready to kind of put it all out there.

Wasn't he the guy having a pissing contest with a another Chiefs fan on our board? ROFL

Here is Chiefplanet's 14 page game prediction thread:

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=309795

Here is the opening post:

What I want to happen:

Tyreek Hill has a monster game, catching a 54 yard TD pass on the Chiefs opening drive, and returning a punt 75 yards for a TD in the 3rd quarter.

Kareem Hunt has a good day catching the ball out of the backfield, and also rushes for a 32 yard touchdown in the 4th quarter.

The defense gives up a lot of yards to Tom Brady between the 20's, but also comes up with 2 INTs, one by Eric Berry as the Patriots are driving to potentially tie or win the game late in the 4th quarter.

Chiefs win 30 - 27

What I'm afraid will happen

Alex Smith struggles to find any rhythm with his receivers, and is under constant pressure throughout the game. The Patriots scheme to stop Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill - and the Chiefs other receivers are nowhere to be found.

The Chiefs defense is picked apart by Tom Brady, and Philip Gaines gives up a whopping 200 yards before going down with an apparent groin injury.

Patriots win 38-17

What I think is most likely to happen

The Chiefs make the game interesting until the 4th quarter, but Tom Brady and the Patriots prove to be too much for the Chiefs.

The ChiefsPlanet server goes off line during the game twice during the game, leading to 2 different threads being started on the topic sometime early Friday morning. Somebody creates a "I'm leaving forever" thread, which starts hilariously, but then gets moved to the Romper Room where it quickly dies out. We're all treated to a 100,000 page mega thread where we rehash Alex Smith talking points until the next game.

What are your predictions, folks?

And whatever happened to long time regular, chiefsgal?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Some people call the next 4 weeks the first quarter of the regular season. Having watched BB teams over the years, I've come to refer to the first 4 weeks of the season as extended pre-season. Every year it feels like during the initial 4 game stretch we are experimenting, trying different people and different positions, playing very vanilla defense and not really opening the full playbook. Maybe this year will be different, with a large core of key players returning, but I haev a gut feeling I will be disappointed and the play calling and defense will play straight up, causing these games to be much closer than than would be later in the season.

The weak link on this team, in my opinion, is linebackers. Everyone says moving Hightower outside and using Harris inside will be great. Harris is old and slow, and if I recall, Hightower was moved to inside linebacker because he was too slow to play outside. I love Dante, but he needs to play inside IMHO.

I think the Pats will win, but none of us will be impressed yet. This team will gradually jell and be very impressive late in the season, but not looking for anything mind blowing this early.

As always, hope I am wrong.

I wish Kraft had two banner drops Thursday one being SB champs and the other a GIANT Goodell Banner next to it...Imagine the look on Goodells face..LOL

Pats will start slow in this game, but will pull away in the second half. 31-17 or something like that.
