College Football 2024 Thread

Good ballgame.
Buckeyes had just a little more fire power.
Riley Leonard is a tough sob.
ND is in good hands with Marcus Freeman. They need to hang on to him.
Word to the wise. Never ever go with single man coverage on Jeremiah Smith. Huge mistake by ND.

Good game by the Buckeyes. This is the one team I didn't want to face and the one game I didn't feel good about. Congratulations on a championship in spite of losing to Michigan.

Maybe Ryan Day will leave OSU and go to the NFL with the cachet of a college football national championship enhancing his resume.

A win-win situation for OSUBuckeye!

Interesting article that discusses the affect NIL is having on college football and why medium sized schools can no longer compete against the huge schools.

Great article, Chevss. Thanks for posting it - I too was happy to see the SEC take a step back these last two years (or, more tellingly, fail to step forward as many other teams did).

From what I saw of OSU and Penn State and ND and Oregon, there might be a football final four next year with no SEC teams.

Saban hated NIL and he wasn't fond of the transfer portal, either. Those 2 things had a lot to do with his retirement from the game. I'm sure he has some
ideas on what needs to be done. Perfect guy to do this.

It was reported Wednesday that President Trump is to create a commission that will examine college sports and its inherent issues such as NIL, the transfer portal, conference alignment, and Title IX. Sources told the Athletic on Wednesday night that Saban is expected to be named co-chair; no additional information on other potential co-chairs or commission members has been released at this time.

As it stands, the NIL is absolutely unsustainable.
As per usual, the NCAA put in rules without considering the long term ramifications. NIL should be a thing, yes. There should also be a cap. There is no cap, there is no regulation, there is no restriction on player movement.

They did the same thing with conferences, taking a laissez-faire approach to it, and in 5 years, we're going to have a North Conference, a South Conference, and any schools outside of those 40 teams will be absolutely fucked.

They need a commission, but one with teeth. The NCAA has proven over its history they don't know what the fuck they're doing. Football and Basketball both need their own oversight. JMO. :coffee:
