...because we don't seem to have one?

I do statistical analysis for a living, but I'm not experienced with sports gambling. We're doing it as a homeschooling math/life project with our kids who have interest in sports. I figured why not track it here, and y'all can do the same, or just cheer me on or make fun of me. Will keep me from only talking about the wins, at any rate.

I'm intrigued by individual player prop bets, but I'd love them a lot more if I cheered for almost any other team - Belichick's game planning often makes the "how" wildly unpredictable.

A type of bet I've not seen before is the "PointsBetting" where your wins and losses are multiplied by how much you win or lose by. So if you're betting $10 on the over 4 on number of receptions and your guy catches 7, you win $10x3 = $30. If he catches 0, you lose $10x4= $40. That's interesting (and scary), especially when you're talking about QB passing yards, for example, instead of number of receptions.

I tried one of these on tomorrow's game:
$2 on Stevenson OVER 16 receiving yards.

If I understand correctly I could lose as much as $32 if he gets 0 yards (can't go below that) or gain up to whatever the max multiplier allows. Might be 150x or something, but it's high enough that it shouldn't matter.

I don't love it because the Steelers LBs (Bush & Jack) are so fast, but with Montgomery out and Strong dinged, someone is getting a few passes out of the backfield, especially with routes designed to slow down blitzers. But 20-50 yards on a few screens, short middle dumps behind the rush, or wheel routes seems like a very reasonable outcome, and I'd be pretty surprised if he didn't get at least a catch or two for a few yards each to limit the downside.

It’s a complement... 12 Wanders, a career, we have 4 adults, now and 6 or 8 grandchildren depending on how you count, and, I find it incredible what you do. I see a lot of crap (in the nicest of ways) in may line of work so kudos.

Ah ok. Thanks. And it's 11 now at home, down from 13 total. Turn turn turn and all that.

One of my Brothers is close friends with a guy who comes from a large family, almost all of whom are or were heavy gamblers. One day he's bitching about how he has no
money, despite owning a small company, and later on that Sunday afternoon I found out why. He put up 100 bucks on a 3 team teaser, which means he's got to pick 3 teams to win versus the spread.

He reveals that he's 2-0 on the day and needed Cleveland to hit a 54-yard FG as time is expiring to win the bet. He was close to hitting for pretty big money on the deal and his eyes were popping out of his skull as they lined up. He was tripping.

So, the kick goes up and, as God is my witness, the ball hits the crossbar and teeters back and forth as if deciding what to do. Then, it
falls OUT......and his kids probably didn't eat much that week.

That is one of about a hundred bad beat stories about this guy that I've heard. He later hit on TWO scratch tickets for a million bucks each, but it just increased his appetite for
the action and he's close to broke again. I do know that he lost a ton of money recently at Foxwoods because he claimed he came up with a "system" to beat the house at roulette.

I thank Christ that I just don't seem to have that gambling jones. I have plenty of flaws as a human being, but betting, aside from small wagers with friends and family, isn't one of them.

Yeah, it's not really a thing for me either, but it's a good way to teach intermediate math concepts, and teach kids some hard lessons (hopefully). Worst case scenario is they ignore the mathy parts, pick randomly, win a bunch, and get hooked on winning...

All you have to do is encourage them to bet the spread in NFL games. Maybe you could get them to do research by promising them something they really want if they win, but if they lose they have to do extra chores or rake leaves or something.

What got through my skull is that how long it takes to make the money, but it can be gone in an instant. No bueno.

Gambling is a funny thing to me. I have almost no interest unless in Vegas or on a cruise. I haven't been to Vegas in 15+ years. We have been on several cruises since then and I will sit down on nights at sea and play black jack after dinner while the ladies head to the shows.

And I will sit there for 5-6 hours. I love it.

But I don't go to casinos or bet on sports otherwise. Never. It doesn't even cross my mind unless I am on a cruise.

Strange, eh?

I had a good run with BB/TFB.
I haven't bet real money very much since the end of 2019. ;)

Thankfully I have no interest in gambling. went to Foxwoods once for a bachelor party and lost the amount I had limited myself too in about 15 minutes! Proud that I just watched others and didn’t grab more cash

years ago me and a friend made 4 trips to Foxwoods one spring and summer. Each time I brought 200 in cash (mostly played poker at the .25C table) left checkbook and all my plastic at home. Cleaned out first 3 times fairly quickly (lasted a good time once), then on the fourth trip walked out with 1750 something, so a good summer. Haven't been back since. Just beep buying SB squares.

Cheers

...ah, well. With the points betting that's down $24.

Ready for this?

I booked a cruise for the family and my daughters BF this morning. :) We embark 1/2/23.

So now I begin the 3.5 month journey of saving all of the change and any bills in my pocket below a $20 at the end of each day in a Brooks shoe box in my closet to be used at the $5 BJ tables.

My wife is STILL laughing and making comments this afternoon. "what had you thinking about a cruise"? " I need a little more warning". "What ship?".

So far, she hasn't asked "how much was this?" or "how did you get Lilly to go?". I doubt she will ever ask the 'how much', but she will absolutely ask how I got Lilly on board (Punny, I know). I already answered the Lilly question above. :ROFLMAO:
