He doesn't have that "killer instinct" factor in him. It matters (a lot).

That's exactly what Brady had that made him so great. Rodney Harrison had it. Gronk had it. Edelman had it. Steve Smith had it. etc...

Notable Mistakes and Turnovers
    • Forcing Passes & Impatience: Analysts and Maye himself noted that he has tried to force throws into tight coverage rather than taking what the defense gives him, leading to multiple interceptions (including a goal-line pick against the Jacksonville Jaguars and multiple picks in the opener against the Seattle Seahawks).
    • Ball Security Issues: In the Week 3 loss to Jacksonville, Maye had a bizarre turnover where the ball simply slipped out of his hand while attempting a pass, alongside a strip-sack fumble.
    • Staring Down Receivers: Film breakdowns highlight that he has been slow to move off his primary reads, allowing defensive backs to easily jump routes and anticipate throws.
    • Pocket Awareness & Pressure: Facing heavy pressure behind a porous line, Maye has occasionally rushed his mechanics, leading to inaccurate passes and taking nine sacks over the first three contests.

I’m rolling my eyes at this………

Put any other QB in the league with this group of offensive players and the results would be similar or worse. Name 3 teams with a worse group around the QB. I can come up with the Dolphins and maybe the Texans without Nico.

While I agree that he needs better help around him, the fact is he's regressed.

It's like you're purposely ignoring all the stats showing Maye is the one big reason why the offence sucks. He had 8 INTs in the whole of the 2025 season. He has 6 already and 1 TD pass. That's it. His QB rating is down the toilet. Every stat is worse. Just because he has a poorer receiving corps does NOT excuse the boneheaded plays and decisions he is making alone.

Honestly, the pathetic habit of blaming everyone but him is jarring.

But here's the problem: pressure can cause bad plays. Being without a No. 1 receiver can reduce the margin for error. A tougher schedule can lower production. But none of this explains why your franchise quarterback is suddenly turning the ball over like it's part of the job description.

That's where this gets concerning, because Maye's second season wasn't a fluke. The analytics backed it up. As a rookie, Maye averaged minus-0.03 EPA per dropback, averaged 6.7 yards per attempt and posted a 3.5% turnover-worthy-play rate.

I see the stats, a lot of it’s happening because Mack Hollins is his number one, and the run game blows.
Yeah he’s making some bad mistakes, but no QB could elevate the garbage group around him.

FYP.

Nobody says it's not Drake. I think everything's on the table. He could be hurt. He's desperately suffering from lack of practice and game time during preseason. Josh is doing a ridiculously horrible job of scheming anything. The supporting cast is performing well under expectations.. Injuries on the offensive line.

Or three games in and there's been nothing in terms of adjustments. There's been nothing in terms of personnel groupings changing. It is Drake, but it is at least equally on Josh.

He’s overwhelmed at this level. The physical tools are there. They’ve been displayed.
The mental toughness is not.
I didn’t want to believe that but the doubts have gone from creeping to banging on the door.
Maybe he can bounce back maybe not.
The longer it goes on the less likely and we’ve been waiting a while.
He needs to get his shit together immediately.
