GAME 11, Jets @ Patriots, 11/13/2025

This is very true but it’s important to remember that Maye is his own person and just like he’s not Brady or Mahomes he’s not any of those either. We’ll see what the future holds, your presumption is reasonable but not guaranteed. It could be substantially better or worse than that only time will tell.

But while that all is obvious, the less obvious but absolutely critical component is that Maye has something the other 3 do not - Josh McDaniels. Not only is he, without hyperbole, arguably the greatest offensive coordinator of all time, and a master of the system NE does best, he’s an absolute unicorn in that he’s utterly unpoachable. He’s been a head coach. Twice. He sucked at it. He knows that. He loves it here and loves being OC for the patriots, and his family loves it here. He’s relatively young and he’s not going anywhere.

So Maye is guaranteed stability at head coach and offensive coordinator. Stroud already had his OC change over. Maye won’t have to deal with that, and as we know better than anyone the longer a player can marinate in a stable and effective offensive system the deeper their mastery of it can become.

I certainly hope Josh wouldn't take a HC offer again, but I bet he'll be offered one eventually, especially if the success becomes maintained long term. And if he's offered, who knows. We'll see I guess!

5 games are different, because of the divisional games.

But this still doesn't address the objection that the Patriots strength of schedule contributes to their 9-2 record. In fairness, it's been kind of a perfect storm this year:
  • The Patriots draw the 4th place schedule, and the Titans, Raiders, and Giants have all continued their suckitude from last year, while each of those divisions have 3 other teams that range from decent/dangerous to good.
  • The AFC East drew the AFC North this year. Many years that's a bad draw, but this year Burrow is hurt, Jackson and the whole Baltimore defense is hurt, Pittsburgh is hollow, and Cleveland is Cleveland. On the flip side of this the West is a monster and while most years the South is awful, this year everyone except the Titans is reasonable or at least has real ways to beat you.
  • We also drew the NFC South this year, which turned out to be the Saints, one good team, plus we caught the Panthers before they hit their stride and the Falcons right as they were hitting their downturn.
  • A huge run of easy games eased the burden of an extremely late bye week, and the Patriots have had amazing injury luck this year so far.

It's stupid to hold strength of schedule against a team, of course. But it's not stupid to consider the schedule when evaluating a team's resume, and that's really all anyone is doing: The Patriots beat a bunch of terrible teams. They also beat Buffalo and TB, but by a total of 8 points.
How do the Bills play 5 different teams than the Pats? The only teams they played different than the Pats are Houston, KC and Philly.

This is the silliest argument in football.

Teams play 17 games, 14 of which are based on divisional rotations and 3 "strength of schedule" games.

The Bills, Jets and Dolphins play the same schedule excepting those 3 games.

The Patriots "strength of schedule" is bad because the Jets and Dolphins are pathetic.

Haters can go ask the Jests and Doofins why they blow.
Exactly correct.

Milton Williams to IR, dunno if it's the kind that you can come back from or if it's season ending IR... Edit; per Yardbarker it's the 4 game variety.

He has to miss the next four games. He can come back though. BTW high ankle sprains are no joke.

Oh, trust me I know. I dislocated my ankle last year and it popped itself back in so they just called it a bad ankle sprain, and I'm still dealing with pain in the ankle all this time later.

They don’t play themselves, although they may play with themselves
Compare the schedules, they play the AFC north (4), the NFC south (4), the 3 teams in the AFC east (6), then 3 teams based according to their prior season standings. Thats 17 games, I don’t know how you come up with them playing 5 different teams compared to the Patriots 3.

Two of the Buffalo opponents is the Pats and two of the Pats opponents is Buffalo. So technically, they are not common opponents

Line up their opponents. There are 12 in common, 5 that are not.

Brilliant

This might be pertinent here.
