Gregg Allman Dies

This is so sad. One of my idols and a brilliant player. Saw him at the Lowell Folk Festival 3 years ago. So glad I did. Went to an Allman Bros show at the Music Hall back around 1980 or so and it's seared into my memory. They blew the roof off.

Getting old ain't for sissies as my brother would say.

I'm heartbroken, The first time I saw him he was with his solo band at at a small venue in Ct. I was 4th row center stage at a place about the size of a local movie theater.. They blew the roof off the place. I even met him at a local bar after the show (total chance occurrence) . Very cool guy. Then I saw him with the Brothers a couple times in the 90s.

My God. In one sense this was a long time coming, and at the same time time way too damn soon.

Sad that the gifted musician led a life tormented by drugs, alcohol, 6 divorces and many serious medical problems. I had forgotten he was married to Cher briefly. Gregg spent his final years in a sleepy little coastal town south of Savannah, Richmond Hill, GA.

RIP
