Headed to the Mediterranean: Looking for advice.

Glad to see you're in Rome. I was married there, 24 years ago. I remember we had a great dinner in a restaurant called Dal Bolognese, which is quite famous in Italy, it's near the Spanish Steps.
We had such a great time in Rome. Too short! The VRBO we rented was only a block or so from the Spanish Steps.

We were married in Michigan and honeymooned in your great country. Almost two weeks there and when we landed in Dublin we had 1 night booked at a BnB in Dublin, about 5 days each worth of clothes, a rental VW and a “Let’s Go Ireland” book.

What a trip. Even after this current trip the time in Ireland was the best. 1756982515118.jpeg

The wife and I are thinking about doing a Viking river cruise in the next year or 2. Has anyone done one? Any any tips or advise?

I have done both River and Ocean with Viking. Both are great product. Where are you thinking of going?

With river, I would also consider AmaWaterways as well as they are equally good, perhaps even a bit more "luxury" than Viking. For Viking Ocean, it was the best overall cruise experience I've ever had.

We were thinking Rhine or Danube 8 day cruises.

Those are the two most popular rivers for cruising so you really can't go wrong with either and there are plenty of solid cruise lines that offer the itinerary you are looking for beside Viking and Ama; Avalon, Scenic and even Celebrity Cruises announced the launch of two river cruise ships this week and they will begin sailing in late 2027 (not surprisingly, one will sail the Rhine and the other will sail the Danube). They plan to ultimately have 10 river ships so that market continues to expand.

What we like about Viking is adults only.
