How would you feel about a new Free For All forum?

I'm on a few forums like that. It's not good. It's just arguing, accusing each other of things, name-calling, and outright hostility and that in topics that aren't political. It's not a good thing
It's probably fun for a little bit though... :coffee:

I honestly don't think that this forum is heavily policed to the point where a free-for-all section is needed. I'm not for or against it, but I like the way the forum is right now.

To me, this idea is like voluntarily locking yourself in a full-to-capacity porta-potty, and asking other people to roll it down a hill.

But I'm sure some people are into that sort of thing.

I imagine it as a child of this one. Completely free speech more or less. This forum here would continue as a moderated political forum with civil discussion only.

And have a separate Free Speech or Free For All forum that is clearly marked un-moderated, excepting in extreme cases....violence, pornography, criminal activities, that sort of thing.

This idea was a combination of my original thought and the italicized above that was PMed to me. I will give him credit if he wants it. So you could have that forum for political issues that you want to be nasty with. I would just say the only thing I don't want to see are things that would be legally bad. Like no threatening other posters, no calling them out to make them go in there. Your participation in there would be completely your choice. I think it would be a cesspool if it is used, but some people clearly need to get this stuff out of their system on a daily basis that they don't feel they can be civil for very long in here as I have requested multiple times.

It is a thought. I don't want to be so stifling that people leave because of it, but at the same time, there are real desires among many others to keep the PF civil.
I really don't care if the moderation is heavy handed or non-existent in the P&R forum. I really don't.

Set a standard and stick to it. It is only when the moderation is uneven that things get out of control.

Think of it this way like you would a home plate umpire with a terrible strike zone. It could be too wide or too narrow or too high or too low. AS long as that umpire is consistent then there is very little complaining. The players know what to do and what to expect.

Now think about that umpire that is all over the place. Make up calls and an inconsistent strike zone make the players nuts because they don't know which end is up.

I'll take the first ump every time.

I'm gonna get roasted for this I guess because LIKE ME, everyone appreciates your tireless work here. We really do. But the P&R forum needs a more consistent strike zone. Get that right and the problem there is solved.

Fire away everyone if you want. That is how I see it and it isn't the first time I have said it.

Go Bills and Bucs!!!*

This is the PatriotsPlanet board. Its members have already agreed to a "generic 'behave with some common sense and decorum' policy that will apply to all Patriots Planet forums."

The board is open to membership from anyone in the world with access to the Internet. So our members should expect to see a wide diversity of opinions.

But we should expect more - we should expect the kind of civilized behavior that our fellow members have already agreed to exhibit when they signed up.

I don't think establishment of a forum whose stated goal is to tolerate uncivil posts is the right direction to go. In fact, it's a road down which I will not travel.

I think an FFF subforum might work, but more to spar with rival trolls than each other.

Anybody remember that AFC North forum that was like that a few years back? I can't recall the name of it, but it was
an entertaining trainwreck and I would go there pretty often just to view the carnage.

With the rise of the Bills and Phins it is possible that we could once again get some troll action during the season. I think
the Pats' dominance for so long served as a de facto asteroid that killed off the dinosaurs, but maybe some pockets survived.

I'm still here!
