Irsay Arrested DUI and Possession

Also, lol @ the self righteous douchebags on PFT comments. My favorite is the guy who wants to halve our salary cap for the next 5 years.

Must be a Cowboys fan. :coffee:

But seriously, the ones suggesting Luck be suspended for 6 games win this contest.

On a side note, I would like to see Irsay and the organization do some work helping people with these kinds of addictions get help. It sounds like thats the case based on the statement he released but we'll see.

Bit of a follow up:

"Irsay is “firmly committed” to staying healthy

In response to his six-game suspension and $500,000 fine, Colts owner Jim Irsay has issued a statement in which he admits his error and reiterates his hope that the disease of addiction will be taken more seriously moving forward.

“I acknowledge the mistake I made last March and stand responsible for the consequences of that mistake, for which I sincerely apologize to our community and to Colts fans everywhere,” Irsay said regarding his guilty plea to DUI on Tuesday. “Even more importantly, though, I am committed to do everything in my power to turn this whole experience into a positive event for myself, my family, and the community.

“In retrospect, I now know that the incident opened my eyes to issues in my life that needed addressing and helped put me on the path to regain my health. I truly hope and pray that my episode will help in some small measure to diminish the stigma surrounding our country’s terrible and deadly problem of addiction. It is a disease like other progressive, terminal diseases — one that can only be successfully treated by understanding, committed hard work, and spiritual growth. I am deeply grateful for the tremendous outpouring of love and support during these past few months from my family, friends, care-givers, and our great community. Please know I am firmly committed to staying on my path to good health and I look forward to a great season.”

We wish Irsay the best as he continues to attempt to regain his health. And we hope the NFL takes Irsay’s words to heart as it relates not only to persons with addictions who create public-safety hazards, but also to persons with addictions who don’t."

From PFT.

I'm glad whomever wrote that for him decided against calling Irsay a "hero" this time around.

Who doesn't keep at least a couple laundry bags of cash on em?...

Serious question (and not a deflection i promise) but what that offensive linemen of yours get when they caught him with all those pills?

Nick Kaczur.

Regardless of whether you think the fine etc. was harsh or too lenient, the man would sometimes say some whacky shit on twitter etc., and while I was amused by it to an extent it was plain to see the guy was posting while high or drunk and the image of it all seemed totally lost on him.

It's probably for the best if he does take it seriously and gets himself squared away. I don't think he's that bad of a guy and if my old man was as much of a dick as his was I'd probably have issues, too.

Too harsh...

Ian Rapoport ‏<s>@</s>RapSheet <small class="time"> 1h </small> Rules are not the same for a player and an owner (obviously). Irsay got 6 games, $500K. First-time DUI for a player: No suspension, $50K

Good luck pitching that to the PFT trolls. They seem to think unless the team gets disbanded justice has not been done.

Edit: BTW, I'm fine with the punishment.

I'd like to have seen him suspended for the season, just to send a message.

That said, anything to do with draft picks or salary cap being mentioned is just outright dumb. Unless you want to knock $30K off the cap for the laundry bag cash, for my own personal amusement.

Well, since that's all he was charged with, I think thats all Goodell can punish him for? Could be wrong on that.

Nah, he can take into account anything surrounding the incident. If it were just for the DUI, he would have gotten what those Broncos execs got last year.

I figured it would be around 8 games or so. If it had been a full year i wouldn't have complained though.

The people demanding draft picks or salary cap penalties are just being typical self righteous douchebags. Haters gonna hate and all that.

I think the punishment is fine. 6 games of not being allowed anywhere near his team plus half a mill? Fits the offense.

For Irsay, it's a paid 6 wk vacation and the equivalent of a $10 fine.

Other than the public humiliation, the twitter ban will be the worst punishment for him.

But I'm fine with it, too.

The Colts should have lost draft choices - that would have been real punishment- not this fake punishment.

Hell Welker is losing $1.8 mil for using speed. Lounge Lizard gets fined chump change to him. No justice- no peace.

If you're going to take away draft picks for a member of an organizations off field behavior, how many drafts are you guys gonna have to give up for APerps little killing spree?

The owner is different than a player. A billionaire is different from a millionaire.
His so called punishment was nothing tangible.
