IT’S VRABEL!!!!

Disclaimer, this is not about politics. This is solely about how players handled something previously that was a personal matter. Bill had written an encouraging letter to trump. Trump made that personal letter public and read it.Devin mccourty iirc got very pissed off about it and commented publicly on how bill was going counter to his beliefs about not being a distraction, etc. I am not sure if mccourty addressed his comments and concerns to bill before he spoke in the media. I believe bill did address it with his team. But I just don't like how things somehow become one way street when they want to protest the anthem, they do that on work time in work uniform when somebody writes someone a private letter and that recipient chooses to read it publicly it is now something to berate the writer for. bill never made comments about the players protesting during the anthem. he rightly makes all of those topics private between him and his players.

Similarly, vrabel chose to comment on bible verses that treyveon henderson posted that looked to be in support of a basketball player who was cut, calling for henderson to be inclusive and become more educated. In my opinion, he should have addressed that only privately with henderson. I hope he spoke to treyveon before he made public comments about it. vrabel definitely needs to address it with them or he's a hypocrite.
You’re treating these situations like they’re the same, but they’re not.

With Bill, once Donald Trump read that letter publicly, it stopped being private. At that point, it reflected on the team, and guys like Devin McCourty were responding to a public situation, not a private one.

That’s the key difference.

Same with Mike Vrabel. If a player posts something publicly, a public response isn’t hypocrisy. It’s engaging in the same arena.

The principle is pretty simple:

If it becomes public and affects the team, it gets addressed publicly.
If it stays internal, it stays internal.

So this isn’t a double standard. It’s different situations being handled based on whether they were made public or not.

No, my point was that bill did not make it public. And that it was fine for him to address it with the team if the team demanded it. devin mccourty was wrong to demand it publicly. Bill absolutely never called his players out in the media even when they did do something publicly.Mccourty did not show him the same respect.

Your argument leaves out the key trigger: it became public. It does not matter if Bill made it public or not himself.

Bill Belichick didn’t release the letter but once Donald Trump read it publicly, it was no longer a private matter. It was now tied to the team in a very visible way.

At that point, Devin McCourty isn’t “demanding something publicly” out of nowhere, he’s responding to a situation that’s already public and affecting the locker room.

Also, saying Belichick “never called players out publicly” isn’t really a fair comparison. He wasn’t put in a position where a player’s private action was suddenly made public by a third party in the same way.

So the standard isn’t about respect being one-way, it’s about context:

Private stays private until someone else makes it public.
Once it’s public, everyone connected to it has to deal with it publicly.

McCourty didn’t break the standard. He responded to the reality that the situation had already changed.

I'm still thinking that this has written by a I.But either way, are you really trying to say that bill did not deal with any issues that players had that were relayed by a third party? Do you think hernandez stood up and talked about how he murdered people? Or did that come from the newspaper and news sources?
I will never agree with you that mccourty had a right to go public with that. if someone else makes it public, he should simply address bill privately over it. I think there's a huge difference between someone who makes something public on their own versus somebody who was outed against their will( not talking about crimes, just something like this). Just as bill should never go public and didn't in any way over their stance against the national anthem even though they did that on their own publicly.

Everyone has lost their minds over this. You say "their stance against the national anthem". Others will say they were not taking any stance against the national anthem, but highlighting concerns about police brutality during the national anthem...

And I don't know why someone being called out for using stone age religious beliefs to justify prejudiced statements is somehow linked to Mike Vrabel having a fling on the side??

This thread is getting weirdly political...IF Vrabel had called out one of his players for having an affair, then it would indeed be hypocritical....

Your argument is kind of all over the place because you’re applying different standards depending on the example.

Bringing up Aaron Hernandez doesn’t fit at all. That was a criminal case driven by law enforcement and media, not a comparable situation to a personal letter becoming public.

Bill didn’t release the letter but once Donald Trump made it public, it stopped being private. At that point, it’s tied to the team whether anyone likes it or not.

So when Devin McCourty speaks on it, he’s not exposing anything. He’s responding to something already in the public space.

Where your argument shifts is here:

You’re saying players can express things publicly (like protests), but teammates can’t respond publicly when something else becomes public.
You’re also treating “made public voluntarily” vs “made public by someone else” as if that changes the impact but once it’s out, the locker room still has to deal with it either way.

I'm actually curios which couch he sleeps on
The one in his basement or the one in his office

i'm done. I didn't want it to get political but it looks like it went there.
I thought it was a good topic. :thumb: Just a little too close to the PR stuff ...

Me too. Other people's business is none of my business. I remember from grade school: "Keep your eyes on your own paper." Are our own lives so vacant that the only thrills we can get are rummaging around other people's underwear drawers? Apparently so, as the tabloids are making a whole lotta $$ snooping into others' affairs (literally and figuratively).

I have rummage around other's drawers, once, literally. It was disappointing .

I've always thought they was something off about Vrable and I've figgered it out......

it's his eyes!!! ---- look at that squinty left eye of his

mike-vrabel--1259287548.jpg

it's clear irrefutable evidence of extreme acts of mendaciousness :lecture:

or

he was a pirate in another life

Could you reword that so Maine people can understsnd?
yes I can

[...] extreme acts of mendaciousness [...]

When walking thru the woods in central horse-fly sized mosquito infected bumfug, a local Mainiac tore the sleeve of his L.L.Bean flannel shirt

Once back at his rural cabin, in an extreme act of mendaciousness, he was able to stitch (see: mend) the shirt sleeve back to near it's previous usefullness as protection from the elements (see: wind, cold, rain, horse-fly sized mosquitos etc.)

:coffee:

That happens all the time. We just call between 6-7 "fix it time". Don't need a big word for that.
I thought it was more about the lobsterman in Small Point who always comes back with the most lobsters. He got that look about him that says he been poaching Canadian waters and using other people's traps. A big word is needed for guys like that.
