Jerod Mayo Fired

And he might never turn it around. But head cases pay a bigger price than most for lousy coaching. We know Baker has the talent. Let's see what some coaching can do for him, see if he can be an NFL WR. I'd give him maybe a 40% chance. But it's far from a zero chance.

WRs with the size and skill set of Baker are readily available in every draft. If you get one that's a head case and whose play doesn't justify putting up with shenanigans, you just move on and draft his replacement the next year.

If I grant you the first part, and I don't, we still would need how many wide receivers to get through training camp? You give him a chance to prove himself on the field. Not saying I trust him as our wr3, but I definitely wouldn't mind having him hang around for a bit as wr5 or 6. See if he gets it. All things being equal, as it stands right now I'd keep him over Polk. Well maybe not keep him over Polk, but I'm higher on him then on Polk for the future. That's not real high, but between the two of them? Baker is more likely to pop.

We don't need more wr3s and 4s, So I don't want to chase them in the draft. With Bourne, Boutte, and Pop we have our two, three and four.

Fine - if he keeps his head down and works his butt off and shows he's a team-first guy (i.e. carries himself like a Troy Brown) and survives all the cuts, then sure, he can be part of the team.

But there are a ton of guys at a similar skill level that are willing to do all of the above just to remain in the NFL. Let's see if he's one of them.

I agree with both posts. I don't know what happened between Baker and the coaches with any certainty. All I saw was the result of him being benched.
Most, not all, of the ranking sites had Baker as a 2nd round pick, ahead of Polk who was a 3rd or 4th round guy. He should have done better this year.
Flagg is right, we have plenty of WR3s and WR4s already. We don't need to waste draft capital on more. If he's a bad guy then get rid of him. If he's not a
bad guy, give him another chance with new coaches.

The greatest coach of all time went 4-13 and got fired. A first time Head Coach who didn't even have experience as a coordinator went 4-13 and got fired.

There isn't a race card big enough for him to win a lawsuit, and he's screwing himself over for any future jobs if this is true. It just goes to prove even more that he wasn't ready to lead a team.

Any further news on the validity of this potential legal action by Mayo? I have enjoyed listing to Dakota from Braintree when he's called into sports radio shows in the past, but Adam Schefter he ain't.

I'd think Baker deserves a mulligan last season considering how badly the team looked as a whole sans Maye, Mapu and maybe special teams.

If he can't get his act together then dump his ass, but if he has potential with more structure he may have a better chance to show it this upcoming year.

I mean, Boutte was a 6th rounder—he did jack shit his rookie year, but flashed some ability with a team devoid of talent at WR last year.

It's definitely worth seeing what Baker has to offer.
