Judon to the Falcons

I guess if they can turn that third into a serviceable OL then maybe it will be worth the loss on the defensive side.

Judon has two seasons left if he’s not injured and the pats aren’t contending in that time frame.
This 3rd can net Stevensons eventual replacement, or interior OLine depth.
You can call it Kraft being cheap, but even if money isn’t a factor I’d prefer this 3rd over Judon for 2 years. This 3rd can also be ammo to trade up. This is good.
Plus Judon is an old vet and a strong personality. Him being gone will let the coaching staff set the tone they want in the locker room.

my initial reaction was that seemed light, but now that I think of it (or put yourself in the falcons shoes) he was injured last year, he is older and he wants more $$
if Falcons think he is a missing piece to a deep playoff run then it makes sense. Pats ain't going anywhere so why keep an aging vet who wants $$ and might be injury prone after so much football.
I'll miss him and like him when he was here, but it is what it is (where have I heard that before.... :coffee: )

Now I would have really liked that to be a good O-linemen rather then the pick, unless pats can parlay that to another team for a good o-line guy now (to keep Maye, Brissett, whoever) alive this year.

Cheap ass Bob Kraft is not gonna pay.
Horseshit. They just doled out a lot of money to their own guys, they had offers for outside guys and no takers. This is such a weak sauce take it's not even funny anymore. Ya, lets pay a 32 year old, coming off a torn bicep what he wants. Yeah, thats a recipe for disaster for this team especially.

I heard Atlanta offered the 28th pick in the third round!!!!
:rimshot:

Not bad.

I'm extremely bummed about this. I'm telling myself he won't be worth whatever contract the Falcons give him because
he'll get hurt and that team will never win anything, but if he stays healthy and goes totally ham down there then we're going to
look like The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight. Again.

Contrary to some people are saying, his loss leaves a gaping hole in this Defense. We've lost our two best players on D before we
ever played a game. Not good.

1) It wasn't 'a lot', it was several guys, but the only one making close to market value is Onwenu - also none of them are signed for more than 3 years. Also, they signed players from a 4-win team. the worst team they've had in 30 years.

2) They had offers for outside guys, and would have had takers had they offered more. You don't get the Dynasty Discount when you're a 4-win team.

3) Yeah, sign a 32-year old, arguably the best pass rusher in the conference since he's been here, for two more years at market value. Let him mentor the young pash rushers on the team, while still putting up production. He had his faults, fading out in December being one of them, but you can't deny how good the guy was here.

I mean, you're paying for him now anyway in dead cap, certainly not the full amount, but some. They're on the hook for about $10 million over the next two years (most of it this year).

Bob Kraft is a cheapass, and they've done nothing this offseason to dissuade me of that notion. Bear in mind the players survey about Foxboro, and their facilities, and the fucking bologna sandwiches. It was cute and campy in the 80s when the Sullivans were digging change out of their sofa to keep the team alive after they got fucked over on the Jackson 5 tour. It's not cute or campy now when the owner is a multi-billionare, with the worst parking and traffic in the league, in a now 22-year-old stadium, whose only major improvement is a bigger scoreboard. They've had 22 years to improve this. They've done nothing but print money during this time. And they haven't. And now we're here. Bob Kraft is a Cheapass Exposed. Brady and Belichick aren't here to cover those warts anymore.

Big hole. Not huge but it explains sudden reports out of camp that “white” is a beast.

A 3rd is more than I expected so in that regard this is a good deal swung by Wolf. However, a solid LOT (or even a ROT) would have been better.
Otoh, he was our best pass rusher and a great locker room guy. He will be missed whether Keion White or OXimines take a big jump or not.
This FO is definitely looking to the future. 2024 be damned. If they don't care about this team, why should I care about this team?
Whoever is playing QB for us this year will be pummeled. This move did nothing to address that and it should have. Better to have waited a little longer and
traded for a T - Philly, for example, will be releasing 1 or 2 good ones on August 27. That's what I would have done.

We could realistically be looking at the 1st overall pick in 2025. I expect it now.

Regarding the money: the Pats still have about $50M in cap. The OL is the weak link for the 3rd or 4th year in a row and little has been done to fix it. Inexcusable in my view.
Kraft just received a $400M check from the NFL. He could afford to sign Judon but Judon is obviously not in the plans drawn up by this FO. Gotta pay for that new lighthouse.

I don't see how anyone could view Kraft as anything other than cheap. He's being exposed now that the GOAT player and the GOAT coach are no longer there to cover for him.

The Pats signed 11 of their players from a 4 win team. I agree with signing the defensive players but why sign Henry and Bourne? Henry is the same age as Judon. Bourne is close to 30.
Neither of them is the difference maker that Judon is.
Judon would have been a better choice to sign than either of them, imo.

Looks like the Pats gave money to Judon on his way out the door to lower the cap hit so the Falcons could fit him under their cap.
Hence the 3rd round pick instead of a 4th or 5th. The deal is looking better for the Pats now. I bet it killed Kraft to cut that check to Judon.

I like Judon, both as a player and person, but I get this move.

Assuming he's healthy and stays that way, the Pats are still not going to be contenders this year or likely next. So paying him a lot of cash doesn't make sense because it's not going to lift the team.

It's clear the strategy is to pay the younger guys who have proven themselves and keep building.

Makes sense.

scenes that probably you would have seen happening behind the seens if you were there

Mayo: Godfather Thunder, I don't know what to do...my voice is this weak...it's weak. Anyway, yeah, if I had this guy, Judon, gone, you know it puts me right back on top, but this man out there, Judon, he won't give in to me.

He says there's no way he plays unless he gets more money....Thunder, I don't know what to do

RKK: (using girly whiney voice) I don't know what to do.... (crying) I don't know what to do ---

You can act like a man!
(yelling) What’s the matter with you? Is this how you turned out, a HC that cries like a woman?
