I hope Zappe is the real deal, but we'd have to see him play a number of games in a row, and how other teams - once they "have some tape" - start defending him.
I'm happy giving Mac the chance this season with a real O staff, and if he doesn't deliver let Zappe try. find out what we have.

I am petrified of this situation because if Zappe is playing over a healthy Mac Jones, that probably means the QB search in New England is starting from scratch.

I will say this too and I almost can’t believe it. Bill is slipping a bit it seems. And if he isn’t, those decisions last season and some of the comments this season ( last 25 years, luke warm on Mac etc) are strange.
Could not agree more. I am not sure it is slippage though. I think he is looking at the finish line and Shula's record ...

Maybe, maybe not. It depends on Zappe. I think the issue is the fans are never really going to settle for just having a good QB after having the GOAT. So the search will always be onging IMO until we find the next generational QB.

Settling for what? Settling for being in the same position where most teams perpetually have to overcome the obstacle of not having a franchise QB, despite high draft investments for decades? This is nothing new and if pink hats can't dig in for the long haul, I won't miss them.

The closest I've seen any teams come to "replacing Joe Montana with the next Joe Montana" have been Montana to Young, and Favre to Rodgers - which has yielded a grand total of two more Super Bowls.

I have never been enamored with Mac Jones and I have said that going back even before the draft. But I 100% supported the drafting of Mac Jones with the 15th overall pick. It's a huge problem if the fanbase won't "settle" for just having a good QB because I have sobering news for you: most QB's ceilings are more in line with a Carson Palmer or Philip Rivers, and they are just as apt to be David Carr

The Patriots didn't create this situation, it's what most teams in their situation deal with, annually. This is the NFL.

I covered this more in-depth early last season, but a designed run for Jackson has been even more efficient than your average Patrick Mahomes dropback.

That is a nice rah, rah speech but not reality. All fanbases in the NFL want to win championships and all understand it takes a top talent at the QB position to do so. The idea that Patriot fans of all fans are going to sit back and smell the roses sounds like what Bill was spouting off earlier this week about the last 25 years... I'm sorry to burst your bubble but no fanbase will ever settle for mediocre nor should they.

How long have you been a pats fan lol. Most of us sat year after year with very little expectations and cheered regardless. You seem to me to be a little spoiled...... It takes time to put a winning team together for the long haul. I think BB may be more of a realist and as he stated he’s done it for 25 years. It takes more then just a QB, it takes the whole team.

I couldn't give a shit if we never win a SB again while I'm still alive. We had more success than any fanbase in the NFL will ever have with a black swan event of the best owner, the best QB, and the best Coach ever to have been involved in the sport. It won't be repeated. And it happened, here, on our team.

This isn't about winning the SB every year. It is about putting together a team that can win a SB and that starts and ends with the QB. We had the best ever for 20 years. This is no chance this fanbase will ever settle for mediocre nor should they. I mean look at this thread as exhibit A. 6 pages on Lamar Jackson and we have a mediocre QB right now ...

That’s my point lol you seriously just don’t get it ....we beat the greatest thing since sliced bread with a rookie QB that wasn’t expected to do much at all, and didn't. Then suck his second year lol. His name Tom Brady he’s now the “goat” I agree. If BB never drafted him where would Tom Brady today be my question?

Lamar Jackson at QB does not equal a team that can win a SB
