This thread is for news of the teams in the AFCE.
The Bills are considered #1 for another year so the Pats are chasing them. I think we're competitive with them this year but realistically we're a year away.
The 2 hour NFL Preview Show this morning picks the Patriots to win the last wildcard spot and the Bills, Chiefs and Ravens as favorites to win the AFC Championship.
These are enjoyable and informative to watch if only to learn about the teams the Patriots are competing against in the division.

PFF points out this is McDermott's 9th year and his window is closing. 11 wins in 2025

PFF is bullish on the Pats. This is very good. 8 wins in 2025? No, PFF says take the over

Our competition for 2nd place. Depends on the health of Tua and Tyreek. 8.5 wins

Jets are just beginning a rebuild and need to build a new culture before they are competitive. 6 wins

I know we've spent a lot if time in other threads talking about win projection but if the Pats were to finish second in the division (even if they don't make the playoffs and get blown out twice by Buffalo), I feel it will have been a successful season.

I also can't help but feel McDermott could be on the hot seat if he either A) fails to make it to at least the Conference Championship, or B) Helps to provide and fodder that coaching was a factor in an AFCCG loss. He has been pretty bad on the biggest stage.

Maybe this thread could also be used for discussions about which coaches are on the hot seat this year and which coach will be the first to be fired.

Brian Daboll (NY Giants) and Mike McDaniel (Miami Dolphins) are two I see as having short leashes and who could possibly be jettisoned mid-season if their teams struggle mightily.

I thought Daboll might have been fired last year or the year before. Seems ownership likes him and his plan. The GM isn't convinced but their arrow seems to have turned up.
McDaniel is attached solidly to Tua's star. In 2022 they were the shiny new thing everyone was raving about. Now? Not so much. This is an impt yr for both of them.

I'll add Dave Canales of the Panthers who have a new owner. New owners of bad teams tend to want their own guys.
Brian Callahan of the Titans probably hopes they fire him. He has mess on his hands and he's not Vrabel.
Kevin Stefanski of the Browns just because of the black cloud over that team and its owner.
One more is Zac Taylor of the Bengals who dig a hole annually by starting out sloooow. They spent a lot of money this year and it damn well better pay off with a hot start and a hot finish. Having a bad defense (25th ranked in '24) for multiple years is inexcusable and easy to fix. Where's the D?

Anyone who ever believed in Tua should be fired.

Ross has to feel as if his team is doomed to compete with the Jets to try stay out of last place for the next few years.

They have to stick with Tua - his play and his contract means he can't be cut or traded until 2027. So he'll be on the field for the rest of this year and next, and then what?

Go with a rookie in 2027 and hope he can compete with Josh Allen and Drake Maye?

Hope that your new GM strikes gold with a Sam Darnold / Daniel Jones / Bake Mayfield retread, when every other QB-needy team in the league is also fishing with you in that barrel? For every retread success story, there are also Russell Wilson / Kirk Cousins / Carson Wentz cautionaries.

Three moves Ross should have high on his list.
1. A permanent GM
2. A new HC
3. Draft a QB (or 2) in the upcoming draft.

Interestingly, I'm not sure about #3. He has both a high-traits retreat and an interesting rookie on the roster currently. Given Tua's injury history, I wonder if the idea wasn't to have a chance to preview the potential change organically when QB1 inevitably goes down for a few games.

Wilson might benefit from this vacation out of the spotlight to address the obstacles of his emotional/personality and processing that have prevented his strong traits from showing any stable success.

...but probably not.

Parts have most cash at $51 Mill, Cowboys 2nd at $031 mil. Plenty of $$$ to acquire both an edge rusher and an RB.

As of now the Patriots covet their high draft picks more than a 1 year rental. I do not expect a splash.

I like hearing this!

McDermott says DT Ed Oliver has a torn bicep, will have surgery and will be out indefinitely. To me, this means he's out til next season.

I think the Chiefs are going to crush the Bills tomorrow. Just a feeling based on the way both teams are playing. If we take care of business vs Atlanta, we open up a 1.5 game lead with the Bills still having to come to the Razor to plays us.

Exactly. It’s not about the money. It’s about giving up chance to acquire young studs in the draft.
Not that they’ve hit on much outside of Drake Maye.
A third for Breece makes a lot of sense though. He’s got 4 good years left.
