Looking At The Patriots 2022

This is exactly my reason for optimism. It's not like we we're projecting what he could do, he has already had a level of success that made him one of the top two FA Tight Ends. Also there was alot going on last year in terms of the large number of new players being implemented into new roles, new QB, it's actually amazing it went as smoothly as it did.
Yes, if I recall correctly I don't think he went to OTAs or other voluntary activities (like many others across the league last year)/and I'm sure that didn't help. As you wrote, it isn't like he's an unproven pro and, as chevs noted, he was heavi!y utilized as a blocker when the need was present.

I’m not trying to be disagreeable here, but jonnu has never done anything as a receiving Tight end. He had one season with decent touchdown numbers, but he’s never been a consistent pass catcher. He’s never had a more than 500 yards in a season. It’s not like the titans were flush with pass catching options.
So he’s a good blocker? So are 50 other jag TEs, and they aren’t making ten million plus a year or whatever Jonnu’s vastly inflated overpaid contract is. You don’t pay a guy that kind of money to block and have 300 yards and 1 TD. If you do you made a huge mistake. You can find undrafted FAs to fill that role at a fraction of the price.
Look at what he’s done over his career. 3 TDs and 350 yards is the norm, not the exception. He’s had competent QBs, coaching, and players around him. He’s a 5 year vet. This is who he is.
At least Hunter Henry has proven he can do it when he’s healthy.
For the life of me I don’t get the infatuation with Jonnu.

I don't think folks are "infatuated" with Jonnu. Quite the opposite I think the vast majority of sensible posters on here are expecting much more this year or he will have been a bad signing. Some of us, including me, feel something(s) were going on last year that we may not fully appreciate that handicapped him. Could it be self inflicted? Sure, but in my mind he gets this season to come around to what we hope/expect he can be.

But he is remarkably successful at being disagreeable, as he says, without even trying! Gotta give him that.

Thank you..it's just exhausting.

You're not getting it obviously...you're only looking at the stats part. You're not watching the game in front of you. People are easily sucked into the stats via fantasy football.

I guess if you want to see it in that way, you could. Whateva...

----

Was he overpaid? Yeah, most likely. Free Agency does that though. It's not his fault. McD really put him in the right places for stats too...right?

What I saw in Smith last year was...he never really got the playbook down imo. He was already slow to pick it up. Perhaps this was also Nelson's excuse too? I'm not sure. They both looked a bit lost out there on the field at times.

So, it was probably a little of everything mixed together.

Over his career Parker has missed an average of 2.5 games/year bc of injury.
Parker's recent injuries have been hamstring and shoulder in '21 (6 games) and hamstring again in '20 (2 games).
Hopefully the Pats' hamstring specialists can keep him in the games for '22.

Steve Belichick on Cameron McGrone and Raekwon McMillan:
“We spent a ton of time with those two guys in the past year.. It’s exciting to have them on the field healthy and ready to go.”

Matt Patricia on what positional group he’ll be coaching this year: “I’ve been with the offensive players, specifically spending time with the guys up front. I came here a long time ago, and I came in as an offensive line coach.” Sounds like Patricia is the OL coach.

Joe Judge is working with the QBs & skill players

If the Pats are going to be as bad as some of the naysayers believe and be 3rd or 4th in the AFCE, why pray tell are we scheduled the final week of the season to play the Bills? Wouldn't Miami or J E T E for the division or a playoff birth be a bigger draw on the final week of the regular season?

NFL has in the pass switched games to air more, in their mind, competitive games or bigger viewing. ( going by memory) If we indeed are bad at that point they could do that.

I think you may be misunderstanding me. I am talking about schedule, not viewing.

This occurred to me as well. Not sure if I can draw anything from it, but you'd think the NFL would default towards scheduling games they expect to be meaningful near the end of the year.

I, for one, believe that Jonnu was misused by a below average play caller last year. A play caller more focused on developing Mac (did a nice job) than he was on calling the plays (and taking on risk to his rep) needed to win games. A magic 8 ball may have been better calling plays.

Do I think McDummy COULD have been a good play caller last year? Yes. He just chose not to, IMO.

In case anyone forgot how much fun it was seeing me bitch about it all game last season.

Hey, I never forgave JMD for only running one RB screen in the 2007 superbow. No attempt to slow that pass Gints rush. We all blame Asante and Pierre Woods, but when your Brady-Moss O only scores 14 points something is wrong.

On Jonnu Smith
2017 Ten 18 rec 157 yards
2018 Ten 20 rec 258 yards
2019 Ten 35 rec 439 yards
2020 Ten 41 rec 448 yards
2021 NW 28 rec 294 yards

He should have better production but would average out to a plus ten yards per game. So far I am not wild about his skill set.
Maybe the best gain will come from the WR group.

Pats have the most twitter fans. Jerrah isn't happy

The Pats will have to create cap space to sign any draftees other than a 4th rounder.
