Looking at the Patriots 2024

Did BB publicly say that he wanted Steve to be the next coach after him in UNC or whatever the correct name is?

It might be BS…
If it does turn out to be BS, some will just blithely ignore that fact and proceed with their own nonsensical BS. And, everyone knows who the members of that cult happen to be.

Its rumored/ stated/tweeted that if BB takes the NC job Steve gets to be the head coach after BB is done.

The way I look at it,
First I think the Steve report is untrue or hope it's untrue.

Second I have no issue with nepotism in the general sense. The best plumber in my area has about 10 kids and virtually every one of them is in the plumbing business.

The issue I have is the public setting. Name another coach that said my son will be the next coach. To me that would be an insult. What, my own dad doesn't think I can make that level on my own.

I could go but think I made my point.
Exactly. But I believe that also begs the bigger question of Bill not believing his son is qualified to get the job on his own.

Also, low key Bill had a second interview with UNC. I mean WTH? How does he not already have this low level collegiate job? Imagine if they actually turned him down.

Because he's in his 70s. You don't hire a coach for a year, you hire a coach to build a program.

shhhhh...some people want to believe that everyone in the nfl wanted tb when it was 1 or 2 teams.....THAT NEEDED A COUPLE YEARS OF GOOD QB PLAY TO PUSH THEM OVER THE HUMP BECAUSE AN OLD QB ISN'T A LT SOLUTION ANY MORE THAN AN OLD HC IS.

Hogwash. The guy has the best résumé of any football coach. Many of the coaches in college football both past and present are older. College football has always had older football coaches because it is such a different animal than the NFL.

Yes, because they'd been there forever and were institutions at their institutions. Not because they were hired in their 70s.

I'm a huge fan of Bill, and we should have kept him here. But even i would hesitate to hire him now, because continuity is a thing that matters.

during the meeting if you were a fly on the wall.....

UNC Director of Sports Admintration: "Welcome Bill, any questions about our HC position?"

BB: "What percentage of your co-eds enrolled here are known to have daddy issues?"

UNC DSA: "Well we DO have a fair amount that have come from Appalachia"

:coffee:

Grandfather issues.

more than mayo
Mayo was a player and a coach all with the Pats before he became DC and then HC. Apparently Stevie is so "qualified" that Bill had to put a stipulation on him signing with UNC that Stevie is the next HC ...

The hesitation with Steve Belichick as a head coach has much less to do with his qualifications and much more to do with this:

...because there's a certain image and professionalism expected of a head coach. Presentation matters to some degree, and Steve is even lower on that score than his father.

He may grow into that part, or he might not.

Maybe you're leaning a little too far towards Mayo in this discussion and not being fair to Stephen or Bill.
Stephen spent 12 years with the Patriots. After his first 4 years as a defensive assistant, he rose to S coach, then spent 1 year as DB coach and finally 4 yrs as OLB coach and and finally OLB coach and defensive play caller, winning 3 SBs. Under Stephen, our S, DBs, OLBs and overall defenses were good enough to win 3 SBs and our defensive backfield was one of the best in the league under Stephen.

I'd say after spending 12 years of tutelage under the best HC and defensive mind in the NFL and having that level of success qualifies Stephen to coach college football.

Also, if Bill coaching UNC is conditional upon Stephen following his HC tenure is true, that's Bill's way of helping out his son and it's something every good father should want to do.
What it doesn't mean is that Stephen isn't qualified.

I could not disagree more.

Again I asked you since you didn't answer before do you have a problem with the shanahans and the reids and the grudens and people like that?
You're always expressing admiration for Andy Reid and Mike Shanahan yet both of them nepotismed their sons onto their teams.
