Looking at the Patriots 2024

K.J. Osborn has been released. They're calling it a "mutual decision".

Goodbye GIF

Some journos are reporting that Mayo is now coaching for his job. If the team gets blown out the last 4 games, he could be gone.

If that happens, the Krafts need to sell this team and get the fuck out as this will all be on them. RKK will not spin his way out if this one.

Kraft is never selling the team. It will be Jonathan's next.

I am still holding out hope for Joe Brady.

Would Kraft set his hubris aside to admit he jumped the gun with Mayo?

I have a hard time believing it.

That would be ridiculous which would be a total Kraft thing to do. So first you hire someone with no head coaching experience to take over for the greatest HC of all time. Then you give him one season to figure everything out on the fly.

By no means am I enamored (sorry, Roberto - enamoured) with Mike Vrabel but I'd like to think Kraft went the Mayo route as he envisioned a bridge coach with how bad things had gotten and wasn't going to pull Vrabe's future reputation down into quicksand that is the 2024 New England Patriots.

Probably not but Kraft is batting goose eggs since the divorce and I am forced to play make believe with potential positive contributions he's making to help the club, long term.

I wonder who those journalists are who think Mayo is coaching for his job. It wouldn't be totally unlike Kraft to do something crazy but, man, that would be low.

I could be wrong but I think Kraft knew exactly what he was getting with Mayo, and he’s happy. Mayo is a figure head. As long as he doesn’t do anything stupid he’s not getting fired anytime soon. I had dreams of Ben Johnson when BB was fired, but oh well. And who knows how he would look trying to scheme for the Pats offensive personnel. Kraft also knew this team was more than one offseason away from competing.
However, Mayo can definitely lose what responsibility he currently has. The defense needs to improve, and quickly. If not major changes need to be made with the coaches on that side of the ball.
The offense is such a barren wasteland of talent that it’s hard to judge Van Pelt. He may truly not have the guys to even attempt things he wants to do. Maye looks good. That was the standard he had to meet, and he will be back next year.

AVP has done a great job with Maye and what little he has on the O.

Yeah. kind of like the way rookie Tom Brady's coach developed him...
And here's me sitting here wondering how many coaches of his accomplishment level would get only 4 years(one of which was a playoff year w/a rookie qb) to find another quarterback after their quarterback left? with a couple of those being cap unfriendly.

Please don't muddy the waters by using common sense and clear thinking...

BB was using a ton of common sense and clear thinking when he benched Malcom Butler and let Nick Fowks throw for 400 yards in a SB loss where the offense never punted. Dude was literally crying on the sideline during the anthem. Maybe someone here knows something I don’t, but I’ve never heard an explanation for that.
For me that was the turning point.

It had been building, like when he won the coin toss in that jets game and decided to play defense and lost. Great coaching decision right? Or blowing about ten years of 1st and second round draft picks. Outside of Mcourty, Gronk, Mayo, Hightower, how many first or second round draft picks got a second contract from 07 till what 2022? But Kraft is cheap.
Thats why BB lost after Brady left. Because Kraft is cheap and won’t resign these great draft picks who left for better money. Give me a break…… there’s a damn good reason no NFL team wants him, and there are some desperate ones out there.

But yes BB can polish a turd in the form of a 5th rounder who is willing to bust his ass on special teams. Will this translate to college? I dunno. To me for BB to take this huge downgrade of a job, he needs to win the ACC. That’s the standard for a successful season. The bare minimum. For “the greatest HC of all time”……..
