Looking at the Patriots 2024

7. Kraft being cheap is a narrative and it is true. Going into this offseason the Pats had $65M cap space, 4th most in the league. The Pats still have $45M of that money so they only spent
$20M of it. You can interpret that however you want. I see it as prime evidence that Kraft is CHEAP and unwilling or unable to invest in the future. The unable part scares me for the future.
I've seen Kraft use every chance he's gotten to play good cop and make Bill out to be the bad cop. That's ass backwards for most Patriots fans. After a 4-13 year Kraft still won't spend.
We can argue this until we're blue in the face.

I agree that every owner has his GM on a budget. I don't agree that Kraft is cheap.

You do know that BB got a piece of every salary cap dollar that was not spent? That was his "bonus" every year.

You know that every team is required to spend 90% of the annual salary cap? 2024 = $255M = $229.5. Patriots are at $46.6 under the cap, or have spent $208.4 so far. Every team can defray a portion of that 90% to the following year (2025). Wolfe wants to push the max to next year. Let's say that's $25.5M or 10% of the cap. He's sitting on $21.1M. WTF is he saving it for??

How about this? Trade a 2025 second or third round pick for Deebo Samuel? This is what he'll cost:

202428$20,972,000$4,807,000$1,825,000$750,000$200,000$150,000$4,755,000$28,633,7659.7%$26,476,000$2,157,765

You don't understand the difference between salary cap spending and cash spending, do you?

I think what you are suggesting is that BB underspent his budget.

The NFL is the ultimate results business, it makes no sense for any GM/Coach/Player personnel director to underspend.

Making life harder on yourself why?

Because they missed a couple of games in the past, doesn't mean that they will get completely shutdown in the future. Okafor has played three games and Caeden Wallace is hopeful that can switch from RT to LT.

Smith and Bahkiari can be had for minimal money. Risk vs Reward. If you take a risk, there is zero reward.

Bahkiari has missed 38 games in the last 3 seasons, Smith has missed 9 in the last two, a bit more than a couple of games.

You do know that BB got a piece of every salary cap dollar that was not spent? That was his "bonus" every year. Bullshit. Why are you making this crap up? But if it were true, it would be further evidence of Kraft's stinginess.

You know that every team is required to spend 90% at least 89% of the annual salary cap OVER A 4 YEAR SPAN? 2024 = $255M = $229.5. Patriots are at $46.6 under the cap, or have spent $208.4 so far. Every team can defray a portion of that 90% push all surplus money to the following year (2025). Wolfe wants to push the max to next year. Let's say that's $25.5M or 10% of the cap. He's sitting on $21.1M. WTF is he saving it for?? BECAUSE KRAFT IS CHEAP?

This ^^^. Mic drop.

Not to mention Bill complained to the media about not being able to spend cash over 2 years ago when this issue first came up. He was proven correct by multiple sources who corroborated his claim.

We struck with Two RT Okorafor & Wallace. Trying to transition to LT. . Do you have faith in Calvin Anderson . Returning from a serious disease.

Calvin looks to be healthy now but he's only started 14 games over his 4 years in the league. 5 at RT for the Broncos in '20 and '21, then 7 games for the Broncos at LT in '22.
Then he started 2 games for us in '23 at LT and didn't play particularly well. He had always been thought of as a backup swing tackle. The Pats renegotiated his contract 6 weeks
ago to reflect his lost '23 season and it also provided an extra $1M in cap space, not that cap space was an issue. He's now making $2.4M for '24. The renegotiation tells me he
was given 2 choices - either take it or be released. By taking it, Calvin acknowledged his NFL career could be in jeopardy.

My hope is that we sign a veteran left tackle who can perform reasonably well and that these other 3, Okofafor, Wallace and Anderson, compete to be swing backups for this yr.

For some reason, the new FO doesn't seem to really care about success. It appears that they want to be accepted first.

As far as signing a left tackle, there are still a bunch available, but none have been as to come in for a workout or even a physical:

One thing I'm hearing is that Barmore's big contract has caused Judon and Godchaux to raise their asking price for a new contract.
Those 2 want new deals now. Godchaux is not VW but he is our only NT. He's said he won't practice without a new deal.
Judon has been our best pass rusher but he's 32, coming off a torn muscle and the Pats D did pretty well without him last year with Keion White and Uche. He's a good locker
room presence.
Neither player's money this year is guaranteed.

What will Wolf do? What will Kraft let him do?
An extension with a healthy cash signing bonus would get the deals done.
I think they both get new deals but I wouldn't be surprised if Judon gets traded either. $7M added to the cap.
