Looking at the Patriots 2024

Patsfan09.
I always enjoy your posts and opinions. I know we often disagree, but I’m glad you haven’t blocked me.

Im curious though. You disliked my last post. Which of those players that were listed do you think deserved a second contract at market value?

First of all, you cannot blame the Krafts for not spending. Bill Belichick had control of every dollar spent or put away and got a bonus for himself for every unspent dollar. BB was the guy who decided who got a second contract and what free agents were signed. In his twenty two years as the GM/HC did he jump in to the FA pool on day before or the first day of free agency?? Never!!! He always picked up the cheap leftovers on Day 3 or 4.

This year, there were not many needed free agents by the Patriots. Please don't say Calvin Ridley. ZHe wasn't coming to snow country on his worst day. That and girlfriend didn't want to move north of Tennessee.

Left tackle is the only thing I'm having a real hard time getting my mind around. There are two outstanding LTs still not signed. David Bahktari (GB) and Donovan Smith (KC). The problem is that both are over 30 and both want three or more years on a contract. AND The both want more than $15M a year.
Both would be an anchor on the left side.

If I were Wolfe, I'd put a 3 year $36M contract out there with $15M guaranteed to the first of the two who put ink on it. I guarantee that one of them would cripple the other to grab the pen.
I wouldn't say they are outstanding, that's a huge stretch. They are the best of what's left, each have concerns otherwise they would be on a roster by now. I can only assume that the Pats believe what they have at left tackle right now is comparable or they simply are waiting to see how training camp pans out. Don't forget there will be opportunities to upgrade that position and rosters settle across the league, there will be vets that gt released, and become available for trade, I can't believe that they aren't watching this and don't have several contingencies in play.

Not sure if this has been posted before, but this is reassuring.

Giants looked like they were gushing over Maye at the combine.

I don’t care how much cap space the Pats have I hope they play hardball with Judon.

Set a precedent. Yes he was good on his last contract and he was paid accordingly. And he also was the best player on a bottom five team in the NFL.
He is old and injured. He’s not worth whatever he may be asking for. Let him go. It won’t be Kraft being cheap. It’s better to let him move on.
Plus he’s a dirty Raven at his heart.

Very often in any business, when new management comes in to take over a failing company it’s best to clean out the “best” people in that failed organization. They cause problems.

I’ve never liked Judon, and it’s not like he helped the Patriots to be a winning organization.

He was not paid accordingly, he was paid about half what others were for similar or worse production.

I really can't disagree with this list . Mapu was the only surprise . He was BB final Day 2 small school Pick.

I can't even begin to imagine how Matt Judon could have done more for the team and organization than he has. He was our best Defensive player whenever he was on
the field and stepped into the role of spokesperson willingly and very posititively. Yes, I love the reasonable, thoughtful answers he gives and the way he handles the
media and has appointed himself a lobbyist for free agents to come here, but mainly I love him blowing Offenses up regularly. He takes games over and there are
only so many of those guys around.

You don't like him because he gets hurt or what? That is beyond his control.

What exactly do you not like about him? He seems like the coolest cat ever. A gentle, intelligent dude with a good sense of humor and seldom
shows any negativity. I'd heard he was a problem child earlier in his life, but he's been exactly the opposite here. He's the guy you want to keep because
he has done everything asked of him better than expected and has been an outstanding Patriot.

I loved him blowing up offenses, and he was paid accordingly for his time over the past few years.
I don’t like his recruiting at all. If it extends behind the scenes however well meant, it undermines the front office and coaching staff.
He’s old. He will not live up to the contract he wants. Let him go and let the young players see the front office play some hardball.

Plus I don’t trust him. He was a happy warrior when he was the featured best player on an awful team. That has to change. He is most certainly on the downside, and new leaders need to step up. New coaches need to cultivate young leaders on the team. It’s time for him to go.

If that is true, which I don’t agree with, I think he was a good but a product of a much larger system. But even if he was under paid. You think we should over pay him to stay here in his advanced age?

Let him go somewhere else and get his money. Unless it’s maybe a one year deal, which he does not want. Let him go.

Okay then. I don't agree with you, but that is a reasonable viewpoint. Let's see if the organization agrees with you. I think we'll see a compromise and
he'll be back in the fold with plenty of time to get ready for the season.

Right now it's considered a given that our D will be tough to deal with, but I think that has to be proven on the field every year and Judon will be a big part
of that happening. With him, and some of the young guys returning and developing, I like our chances to be really good.
