Looking at the Patriots 2024

I love Judon, but I've also been waiting for an opportunity for Mayo to breathe a little fire and show people that he's not their Dutch Uncle.

The head guy has to be able to get on his best players and message the rest of them that this isn't YMCA summer camp and they don't
get to sit around and make friendship bracelets. He's gotta get them ready for war.

I say fuck all the "4-win" predictions and PFF rankings. Nobody knows what this team will be until they are playing somebody else for real. I'm getting
tired of all the sky am falling bullshit I'm hearing everywhere. Until I see evidence to the contrary I am going to believe that last year was absolute
rock-bottom and expect we will become a dangerous, competitive team that is capable of shutting some people up and earning a little respect.

Nobody has to agree with me, but doesn't feeling shitty about the Patriots' chances make you feel horrible? If so, then don't. It ain't over when it
hasn't even started yet.

Anybody that wants to panic that Drake Maye is a bust after one padded practice, then be my guest. Go for it. We live in an era of instant gratification
and he hasn't proved shit yet. Point condeded.

Thing is, I don't need no fucking proof. I've believe I've seen who he is and soon enough everybody will too. In the meantime, I've grabbed a prime seat in the
empty bandwagon. Don't wait long, because it'll be full up before long.
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor!? Hell No!

j/k - I like your positive attitude and we have no idea how things will look once they start playing someone for real. tough week so far with Barmore now Judon's stuff. but it's a long training camp/ preseason (it always feels long) so plenty of time for things to go one way or the other

Love all the Maye BS from the reporters.

Bedard "Rough day again for Maye..blah blah blah. Probably doesn't help that Mafi is his center."

No shit Sherlock. Jesus these reporters are pretty much a-holes.

I record the training camp show on Boston Sports. At the end of the show they have a stock up/stock down segment. That's when I stop and delete the recording.
As you said, it's a long preseason. I'll decide whose up or down when I see the team play real games.

I read something a week or so ago that suggested that Mafi had a pretty good rookie season.

No, he didn't and I wish I remembered who wrote that. Mafi was possibly the worst player on a bad line. Granted, he was
forced into action when Strange got hurt when he should have been safely on the bench, but, let's see......he was overweight, slow,
a terrible pass blocker, showed really poor balance, messed up on combo blocks and without looking it up had a lot of pre-snap
flags. If I was forced to find a positive attribute, I'd say in the rare times he squares up on a guy he showed the ability to drive block,
but that alone wasn't enough to invest in, imo. Eat the draft pick and go with somebody/anybody else. Jake Andrews looked like an
all-pro compared to Mafi.

Giving up on a rookie isn't generally a smart bet, because a lot of excellent Patriots were terrible as rookies, but I feel pretty confident
about this one. He will be an early cut.

I also read that Mafi was our "4th string Center". That should tell everybody what they need to know. I don't even know who #3 is.

Agreed on Mafi, he and Lowe were the week links on the line. This is one of the reasons why I think this year's team will over perform. With Robinson flashing I doubt Mafi makes the team, and with Wallace flashing, and with Okorafor and Anderson I doubt Lowe will have many snaps this year (400 plus last year I believe).

Lowe was awful as well, but I think he was just too small to play Tackle. He's one of those guys' who just looks smaller on the field than his listed height and weight, but even though
he moves fairly well I wouldn't waste time on looking at him at Guard. Just not physical enough to succeed as an NFL OL. He gets tossed around by anybody with strength.

Why this organization brought in Lowe, Wheatley and Anderson at Tackle last year is a complete mystery to me. Not that I've seen a lot of the latter two, but neither looks
to have the physicality to play NFL OT, either. That was a horrendous job by the pro scouting people last season, imo. Cadean Wallace has a lot to prove to win the LT job, but at least he would appear to have decent initial playing strength as one tool to work with.

We're definitely reaped what we sowed by not investing sufficiently in the trenches last year. It's impossible to feel upbeat about what will happen this season but we'll just have to see
how it plays out through the summer to see if we can maybe approach average with some development. It's not a lot to feel great about, but the possibility still exists.

I pointed out a few weeks back that we have the 3rd pick of the waiver wire and the teams ahead of us seem to be well set at OT, so our best hope might be a capable vet
getting cut for cap space. If one comes available and we choose not to sign him then I'm going to be really pissed off, but I have to believe we are banking on that
happening and making sure we can get it done financially.

Well at least they are being balanced, Thursday and today it seems that Maye has bounced back. I don’t mind it so long as they are reporting the good as eagerly as the bad. We all knew Maye was going to have ups and downs and it seems like that’s what’s happening. It’s also only 8 practices in, no need to panic, and with the exception of tollin Volin the rest seem to be reporting it fairly.

When Maye was drafted I remember thinking his over under on starting would be thanksgiving.

I’m more concerned with how he’s carrying himself.

Ideally Brissett can play well enough to let the young guys develop, but Maye comes in in December and looks great and the pats end up with a top five pick next year.

Yeah, no surprise here, either.

Leave it to Trolling Volin to start the National media chant that Maye has been a bust. Not a single reputable beat reporter is reporting anything close.

I guess the message is that you should never consider being reasonable when you can troll everybody with a hot take that gets Patriots fans
riled up.

That is, If they are dopes. Drake turns 22 the end of this month. If Volin was a responsible guy he'd mention that Brady was 24 with a full season of
mental reps under his belt before he got his shot. And it took him years to develop his deep ball to the point where people started laying off
him for dinking and dunking all the time.

But we're all supposed to expect Drake's going to take the league by storm instantly. Sure, throw him in there and Volin would switch takes and
blame Mayo for playing him too soon. I'm not even slightly fazed by what some of these guys write. As of tomorrow, Maye will have been in padded
practices for one week. It's kind of comical watching the Boston media do their monkey dance.

Fuck Ben Volin.

I think another factor is that Brissett is a professional, and he’s going to be able to be competent while this offensive line gets used to the new personnel and changes, and while the rookie receivers learn. Even if Maye looks amazing, Brissett has earned the right to play for at least half a season, and audition for his next job. Provided he doesn’t totally fall apart.
The offense still has tons of holes that can’t be filled in one offseason. I’m fine with letting Maye watch a vet from the bench until thanksgiving ish.
