Looking at the Patriots 2024

It continues to amaze me that we simply do not have any WRs of note. All these years, the drafts, the cap space, and we do not have a single dog out wide. The ones we have are so mediocre, which is to be generous, to be frank. They need to be wide-open with no defenders around them to even think about catching and even then, it's 50-50 if they catch it. We now have the QB but it has made no real difference to this WR corp, they are that bad. Like the O Line, it's a truly damning indictment on the Krafts and personnel and Mayo and co.
Douglas could be a decent complimentary WR, but the rest of them are “EH…”

Is It time to see what Baker can do ?

One of the reasons that the transition between cowher and tomlin went pretty well is because Tomlin was either told(i believe it's this) or decided to keep both very experienced coordinators. so he as a very inexperienced coach had them to lean on so that he could concentrate on head coach duties. From the beginning I have absolutely hated the fact that Mayo had so little experience with anything and yet has 2 play callers who have never called plays.it's idiocy.

Blame Kraft for the messy divorce. Had it been different maybe we'd still have Stevie B calling plays instead of Covington on defense.

AVP is another story, though. At this point I don't know if he's incompetent or how limited he is due to the roster. Either way the offense lacks creativity and is clearly one of the worst in the league.

Everything that I've read about Baker suggests he is/was having issues with procedural stuff (lining up, correct routes, ect)...but with the issues Polk is having it can't be MUCH worse, can it?
Baker we're going to line you up wide on "Go Routes" ,Look back at the QB when the ball is snapped run straight, If the ball is thrown to you catch It.
I think Polk will get better but right now he's a hazard IMHO

Is It time to see what Baker can do ?

Absolutely.
He'll start out on STs more than likely, returning punts and kicks. As a receiver, he's far more gifted than Polk. As far as learning the playbook, I confess to knowing nothing about
that since my contacts on offense got purged along with BB. Baker was reprimanded and in Mayo's doghouse for an incident about 5 weeks ago. As far as learning the plays, if Baker can't learn this simple scheme he'll never amount to anything in the NFL.

While this is true, AVP could do a whole lot better with more imaginative play design. Where's the motion to help them get open quicker, where are the rubs against man
and where are the trailing receivers that are always wide open against zone coverages? 1 guy can't cover 2 receivers in the same zone! AVP's play design is failing the receivers, imo.
The question is, would you jettison him, knowing that you're off to Maye starting off with 2 OCs in his first 2 years, and a new system to learn?

That's a great question IMHO, That's ruined a lot of young QB's.

But can anybody 'coach him up" ? I'm talking about AVP Here

I'd tell him to study the better schemed offenses in the league and give me a video presentation on what he learned, including specific plays, with discussion on why each play
works, when to call it and what personnel we need to execute the plays. Iow, he can learn but he has to apply himself. Then if I don't see improvement during the year, I'd
absolutely pull the trigger on him. I'd confer with Maye then with Mayo about the rest of the coaching staff.
Good offensive schemes = 49ers, Rams, Washington, TB, Chiefs and Texans.

The scheme is bad for sure. But as bad or worse is the play calling, which I'm not sure there is a cure for. Can it improve? Yes, I think it can. But there's also an innate instinct involved there.

When I was calling plays, I HATED it. Those 15 seconds (max) seemed like 3 seconds. It was panicky and awful. AVP doesn't look panicky, but he's terrible out of it, which makes me worry that he has unjustified confidence in his ability, which is probably worse.

Yeah I mean it's definitely more than a 1 person operation. you have to have good people up in the booth.I definitely prefer that the actual play caller/OC is down on the field with the players like he is but still...

Obviously a good question, but for me it seems like everything should be blown up or at least questioned.
This past draft, except Maye, looks pretty weak. Is Wolf the right person? Does Kraft have documentation that shows that Wolf would have picked better players in years past?

How many losses is Kraft willing to take before moving on from Mayo?

Should they bring in an advisor that can review the goings on and provide some high level recommendations?

So,..........nothing. Nothing is what we're doing? That's the plan? NOTHING???
