Looking at the Patriots 2025

The Pats had an open roster spot so they brought back a tackle...

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced today that they have signed T Yasir Durant (pronounced YAH-seer) as a free agent. Terms of the contract were not announced.

Durant, 27, originally entered the NFL in 2020 as a rookie free agent with Kansas City out of Missouri. The 6-6, 330-pounder, was traded by Kansas City to New England in 2021, where he played in eight games with one start at right tackle and as a tackle-eligible tight end in addition to serving on extra point and field goal units. Durant was signed by New Orleans as a free agent in 2022 and spent training camp with Denver in 2023 before being released ahead of the regular season.

Overall, Durant has played in 20 games with two starts. He spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons in the UFL with the DC Defenders. Last season, he started every game at left tackle for the championship-winning Defenders and was named to the All-UFL team.

This is a fair assessment of Maye's 1st year, imo. He points out the good to great aspects of Maye's natural ability but is critical of Maye's tendency to bail out to run a little
too quick. I don't disagree with that. McD had very good success with Mac Jones.

In his rookie year (2021), Mac Jones played 17 games, completing 352 of 521 (67%) passes for 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. He also had a passer rating of 92.5, according to CBS Boston. He led the Pats to a 10-7 record and a playoff appearance.

McD has more to work with in Maye.

And Maye has slightly better overall receivers (WR+TE) this year. Diggs makes the difference as long as he stays focused.
Diggs, Bourne, Hollins, Douglas, Boutte, Henry and Hooper vs Jacobi Meyers, Henry, Bourne, Bolden, Jonnu Smith and N'Keal Harry.

The 2021 OL (Wynn, Karras, Andrews, Shaq Mason, Trent Brown)
The 2025 OL (Will Campbell, LG? Strange or Robinson, Bradbury, Onwenu, Moses)
'25 has the talent to be a bit better than '21's OL but that has to be proven. Flip a coin but Wynn was awful.
I don't consider either OL above avg.

The New England Patriots will unveil a 12-foot bronze statue of Tom Brady outside Gillette Stadium on August 8, 2025, before their preseason game against the Washington Commanders. The statue will be placed in the plaza outside the entrance to the stadium. The unveiling is part of the team's continued celebration and honoring of Brady, who was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame last year.

Somehow I missed this. I found it going back over 2 months worth of Patriots' news. (Wonder what a max mullet looks like)

Courtesy of Seth Walder:

The Patriots hired Max Mulitz as Personnel Analytics Coordinator, per sources. Mulitz previously worked as Director, Coaching Analytics for the Dolphins.

It’s another analytics move for New England, who recently hired Ekene Olekanma as Director of Coaching Analytics.

Olekanma worked previously for the 49ers and Ravens

Per AI
In Essence:
While both roles use data analysis, coaching analytics is primarily focused on on-field performance and strategic decisions, while personnel analytics focuses on the human resources aspects of the organization, like recruitment, employee management, and overall workforce effectiveness.

With all the focus on the O, I had no idea the Pats' D was THIS bad last year.

30th in DVOA and 22nd in scoring defense (24.5 PPG) for 2024. Ouch

The Athletic’s Ted Nguyen named the Patriots’ defense a unit that should breakout in 2025.

“The Patriots just had one of their worst defensive seasons since at least 1999. The 2024 defense had the worst defensive expected points added per drive for the franchise since 1999, the furthest I can go back for EPA stats,” Nguyen wrote in 5 defenses primed to break out. “That’s bleak, but the Patriots defense could make a major bounce back this season thanks to major free-agent acquisitions, a new defensive coordinator, and more importantly, the return of defensive tackle Christian Barmore.”

PFF is not impressed with the Pats' WR room; ranks the Pats 31st. Only the Browns are worse.

Take heart. PFF also says Demario Douglas is fighting with Polk and Baker for a spot on the 53. Dumb.
I guess losing their 4 best analysts after the 2023 season really hurt PFF.

Free article.

I was far more frustrated with the D last year than the O. The D fell off a cliff and the coordinators made virtually no in-game adjustments to solve for anything. I never expected them to be what they were in 2023 but I also wasn't expecting them to be hot garbage.

They have potential to be excellent and I will give them through September to work out any would-be kinks. But I am expecting a top-half of the league D (at a minimum) from October onward. Barring being plagued by injury, there is no excuse for the D to be an Achilles heel to this team.

Top 5. 100% agree it's barring injury.

Yeah….. I don’t want to nit pick this but I’d be pissed if someone gave my wedding gift to a homeless shelter.
This isn’t 1900. The government provides enough social wellfare from our taxes and national debt.
Wow are you a bit jaded. If you give a gift to someone they have every right in the world to do with it as they wish. You have no say in what they do with what belongs to them. Don't be an ass about it.
