Looking at the Patriots 2025

He's definitely not a guard. Guards have wide shoulders and take up real estate. He's a tackle, and a good one. He just needs to make his adjustment to avoid getting beat on outside-in moves. If he'll take coaching, which doesn't sound like a problem, he'll be okay. It's not a physical limitation, it's overcommital to ensure not getting beat to the outside.

Nice write-up today by Mike Reiss in his Quick Hits column

OT Will Campbell (No. 4 overall): Campbell is the starting left tackle in every practice, and it would take an unexpected turn for that to change entering the regular season. He had arguably his best practice of camp last Tuesday, looking dominant at times, which was followed by one of his worst practices. Coaches seem especially pleased with his steady demeanor to navigate those ups and downs, with Vrabel saying he's earned the top role at this point.

Is more personnel needed along the offensive line?

This comes after a week in which the Patriots have had four linemen leave practice with injuries -- starting C Garrett Bradbury (ankle), third-string LT Yasir Durant (placed on IR), second-string RG Sidy Sow (unknown) and second-string LG Caedan Wallace (unknown).

That explains why undrafted G Mehki Butler (Arkansas State) was one of the linemen protecting starting QB Drake Maye in Friday's intrasquad scrimmage.

As Wolf told Sirius XM NFL Radio earlier in the week when asked about adding free agents, "It comes in two prongs. No. 1, do we need a guy to help us practice and get through the preseason? Like a younger guy. Or do we really need veteran help at [any] position? There's not a ton of veteran help on the street right now.

"Then you start looking at trades and our pro staff is constantly looking at other teams' rosters, working the phones, just trying to decide if there's another team that has a surplus of players at a certain position and a deficit somewhere else, then maybe we can work a player-for-player trade. So it's a constant updating."

======================

Depending on the seriousness of the injuries to the 4 O linemen mentioned above, OL help may have actually moved to to be the biggest need. Durant was waived/injured, then he cleared waivers and is now on IR.

And you know that, how?
Unless I missed something we haven't had a
preseason game yet and certainly not a regular season game.
He always goes negative like this I just stop minding what he says when he is like that and amazing it doesn't matter anymore.

How do you know this, moron? Are you at the practices? Have you watched Will in college?

So sick of your negative idiocy.
I’ll tell you this. The team has been awful since Brady left. I’ve been very happy about a lot of moves like Barnmore and Maye, but generally I’ve been right. I was wrong about Dugger. Lol but you’re gonna say I’ve been negative about personnel moves over the last 6 years. Well frankly I view that as a compliment.
I’ll say another thing.
Sometimes my posts may seem negative but I’ve never made insults to anyone on this forum. Never. I challenge you to find a post I’ve made that insults the character of anyone on this forum.
Campbell is a rookie who’s never played an NFL snap. We all can have opinions on him. That’s part of the fun of following the NFL. It’s part of the fun of posting in, and reading a forum.
There are plenty of “experts” who don’t think he’s a Tackle. I’ve watched his college tape. I’ve read plenty of opinions on both sides. Lots.
After a long review I don’t think he’s going to be a top 15 LT in the league. I don’t. He’s better than what we’ve been watching the last 6 years, but next year in the first round I think the Pats are going to have to consider LT.
That doesn’t make me a moron. I’d look in the mirror. You’ve had plenty of opinions that have not aged well.

You are entitled to your opinion. Just don't state it as fact.
The vast majority of "experts" graded him in the top 10 overall. The only knock that some have mentioned was "arm lenght". There have been other OT's without the ideal arm lenght who have been very good NFL OT'S, such as Bruce Amstrong.
He's been playing LOT in the SE Conference at a very high level since he was 18 years old, against some of the best pass rushers that are currently in the NFL.

I'd like to see him play a few NFL games before I start judging him. I even gave Lowe a few games before deciding he was awful.

It's interesting that the staff hasn't brought in any other FBs; it seemed like a big part of the offense as rolled out in spring and the early days of camp. I guess they're just dropping that stuff, and eating the time?

If not, there's this:

Some interesting ideas, and some stretches. Reality is there aren't a lot of pure FBs. And of those few are elite athletes, who tend to play higher-value positions.

I really expect they will convert a TE to FB. Maybe someone like Gee Scott Jr. or C.J. Dippre

The Patriots used the 4th overall pick in 1973 on a guard. It worked out.
I get what you're trying to do, but comparing Will Campbell to John Hannah, the best offensive lineman to ever put on shoulder pads, is kind of a little much.

I don't expect Campbell to ever approach Hannah's level.

All I was trying to say is that drafting a guard at number 4 overall is not unprecedented.

Feeling really good about our O this year. Also STs look like they are going to be beast!

Really after just one preseason game you have decided he is a failure. You apparently have no belief that he can learn or that the coaching staff can teach. I will choose to disagree.

And you haven't been here long enough to track members, their personalities, and their opinions, and are incredibly quick to jump to conclusions.

Are you offended that I disagreed with your opinion? That would be quite thin skinned. I responded to what you posted. What are you upset about? Is it that I am new here?

I was annoyed that you so confidently posted something without context or knowledge. I love new posters. We don't get enough of them.

You're new, so you're not yet really tracking who is posting what over any span of time. You're reading and reacting to each post. That's natural. This is a small enough board that we associate what is posted with the poster. The board as a whole knows what you will find if you searched under Campbell and my posts. So they would know as soon as they saw my name that my post was sarcastic, poking fun at everyone screaming about arm length as the be all and end all vs all the talent, athleticism, discipline, attitude, and technique.
