They need to get Henderson and Williams going. Presumably these guys are going to be foundational players moving forward. The vets are making huge mistakes, so get the rookies in and let them learn.

It's not deceptive. He is only two touches behind number 1. Yes, RBs lead in touches. This is a three way split at RB, so he's about where you'd expect him to be. He'll probably have an uptick in snaps and touches this week.

He's not a feature back. He doesn't have the build to get 20 touches a week. He's a matchup piece, and he hasn't shown any effectiveness to be that matchup piece so far. He's playing stuff, no timing, no burst, no vision, no patience. The game will likely slow down for him and he'll start being effective, but I see no reason to force it until we see signs of that.

He was absolutely killing them against Miami and you want to feature him? I'd rather see the Pats make the push for playoffs rather than getting him reps to learn on the job. No reason to rush him, none. Plus by working him in slowly maybe you avoid him hitting that rookie wall in the last month of the season.
 
Drake Maye has looked really good. I still don't see the consistent command of ball placement that I'd like to see. And I'm waiting to see the icewater-in-the-veins, get better when it's needed most clutch comeback wins against all odds.

But I'll take 75% completion rates and top 5 numbers in success rates, EPA, etc.

Obviously he's not going to be better each week. But if he continues to trend better each week, this is a team that could explode. Realistically, this team is a badly-timed fumble away from week 5 at Buffalo being a game with the division lead at stake.

The key weak spots that concerned all of us were OL and WR. Both have outperformed consensus expectations to the point where they're certainly not dragging down team performance. We now have concerns around safety, off-ball LB, and depth at CB and edge. We have concerns about fumbling RBs and Maye.

My guess is that this team continues to be both exciting and frustrating to watch. There will be maddening mistakes and games lost to inconsistency, inexperience, and lack of discipline. But the ceiling of this group may be higher than we'd anticipated. By the end of the year this might be a team that contending teams are hoping don't make the postseason, and are hoping to miss them in the seeding.

But there's a lot to do between now and then. 10 wins and playoffs is still less likely than missing them. But it's far from unrealistic.
 
glad with the big win yesterday but who knows what the Panthers are... they win big week before, get throttled by Pats. This Bills game will be a better measuring stick and while a win isn't impossible this might be more of a "learning experience" and "big division game" experience that'll pay off as Maye and the rest of the young players learn on the job. I'll be rooting for a win of course, but want to see improvements against a tougher opponent, less dumb penalties, etc.

I heard another something like this - Maye is only the 2nd QB in NFL history to have 3 consecutive games with completion percentage >75% and a TD pass. The only other was Tom Brady, who did it for 4 consecutive weeks in like 2016... something like that.

He's been really good, but it's almost sneaky. In real time it doesn't look like he's playing dominant football. But he seems to be.

I'm waiting for one of my film guys to break down his recent performances.

There's no way Maye has those kinds of numbers.

I have been reading these threads all during the offseason, during practices and the preseason, and now for the first four games.

I've learned that the Patriots have the worst WR and TE personnel in the league, and an extremely porous offensive line. Their running backs are pedestrian, and the coaching staff doesn't know how to game plan against their opponents.

Whoever is coming up with those stats is cooking the books.

Red designates players who have earned more targets imo.

Diggs has been 'ok' but nothing special yet. Teams are on to his short quick routes. Time to open him up downfield. Very efficient 13/15 for 112 yds. Check
Pop Douglas has been disappointing thus far. An inefficient 5/13 for a poor 37 yds. Better chemistry with Maye is needed. I'd take targets from him. Check

Pop has been very inefficient with his reception to target ratio. 5/13 for 13 yds for 3 games isn't getting it done. He has no one to blame but himself.
Diggs has taken over the Slot role and did very well vs the Panthers.

I'll sit back and wait for the discussion to shift again when he hits inevitable struggles of a rookie dealing with the NFL.

But I think it's clear that he's at worst an adequate pass blocker, a plus run blocker in the making if not already, and a valuable culture carrier.
