Mac Jones Is Our QB1

Saw a post earlier talking about how we now have three players named Jones.

Somehow they forgot about Mac the knife.

Since the Bailey Zappe thread got locked..... I'm not sure why BB didn't wait much later in the draft (were other teams after this guy) but having someone similar to Mac as his backup I guess makes sense. Don't want an RPO specialist when our "O" will be predicated on Mac's game.
would have grabbed something more useful in the 4th round, but what do I know... I post here :coffee:

What makes you think we won't be transitioning to something like that? All signs this offseason point to it.

Please expound.
No fullback, everyone brought in is based on speed on offense. It's going to be 4 and 5-wide, throw it sideways just like 99% of college teams. You can kiss the 6-OL heavy formation stuff goodbye except on the tight goalline (or maybe late-game clock-killing).

Hi, saw this earlier on my phone but just now having a chance to reply.... Mac is clearly the opposite of an RPO QB (I'm fine with that) so other then a "change of pace" or "wildcat" type setup to mix it up - with someone else taking the snape - I think having a QB that can run the same offense everyone else on the field is used to makes sense. we do need the speed and perhaps the offense will mix in some form of this but just not putting Mac in harms way, as I'd rather not see him do a "Josh Allen" and get hit on runs several times a game.

will be interesting to see how this all works out!

A reasonable thought, but two of the 3 OLs they drafted are over 320 and they added another big, bruising back in Harris to presumably work in the backfield with Mondre and Damien (while he lasts).

The only thing I can come up with based on their personnel acquisitions this offseason is that they want to be able to play every possible way and style against any opponent as opposed
to a single definitive system-- the norm in pro tackle football.

Remember back when Bill was trying to make it work with Tank Williams? Now we've got about 4 of them. We've got a 6' 3" Corner and drafted two under 5'10"

The OL will have two smallish guys on the Left and two absolute monsters on the Right.

It's either diabolical or totally random. I'm going with the former for now.

:shrug-n:

Over the last 2 seasons Mac Jones is easily the best QB drafted.

THE BEST of the entirety of the last two classes.

2019 had Burrow and Herbert. I think Mac falls behind both (no kidding) as of now.

So, BB has delivered, at worst, the 3rd best QB to the Pats... On the heels of TFB.

And honestly, Jones might be the best. Give it 5 years.

um, I thought Bama was heavily RPO with Mac at the helm...

To clarify, I should say that the part I am referring to is Mac running the ball lamar jackson, Jose Allen, etc style. that is what I think of as an “RPO QB”. Don’t want him taking those Hits And he isn’t that type of QB

If RPO means Mac has someone else run vs pass then great. When Mac does run am I the only one yelling both “go Mac go” and “get down/out of bounds” at the same time?
