Mac Jones Is Our QB1

Mac Jones is a good competent NFL caliber QB1. He’s just not good enough given the way this team is currently constructed.
Same could be said for every other position group. Exception being OL. Which is terrible.

Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how'd you like the play? :coffee:

This is the best team Mac has had since he has been here. The defense is top 5 IMO. The skill guys are very good even without the speed guy to take the top off. We have a young kicker who can make the 45+ yard kicks. Yes, the Oline is an issue but honestly, this roster is plenty good to contend in the AFC IMO, especially given how pedestrian some of the top teams have looked, i.e. KC, Buffalo.

Our OL is a deal breaker as presently constructed for our offense. We can't run the ball effectively, so PA passes, Mac's best passing platform, won't work. The passing game is limited to quick short passes that are efficient but not explosive. Teams already know they're coming and the blueprint for stopping our O is out there for every team. IMO, until our OL becomes more solid, our offense won't be beating many teams.

Honestly, I could care less about the run. We have enough skill guys to beat teams with 1000 paper cuts.

Have you heard if Pop is going to be benched for this game because of his fumble. Stevenson said on the radio that last year he was benched for 3 games after he fumbled. :(

Disagree. Receivers are jags running game non existent defense has failed to live up to expectations thus far.
None are good enough. They can compete and make it interesting, but ultimately they lose.

The running game is important. KC found out in their 1st game that if you can't run the ball defenses load up against your passing game.
That leads to losses if your passing game isn't historically good.

They are not Jags. The TEs are formidable, Pop and Bourne are legit. The Juju trade instead of keep Meyers may be the ultimate killer. But there are plenty of guys for Mac to work with. And Zeke has been better than expected both as a pass protector and providing a receiving option for Mac in the flat.

We must be watching 2 different defenses. They were great vs Philly. I thought Bill played them a little too conservative vs Miami but we sustained injuries in the secondary ...

I would take our skill guys over KCs except for Kelce although he seems like he has lost a step. Might still be the injury.

The run is critical to success in the passing game. The quick game as a substitute doesn't have all the same impacts. It doesn't open the play action pass, which makes the quick, short and intermediate open up. It also punishes teams for rolling out DLs full of pass rush specialists, which also opens up the passing game.

Have you or Chevs had a chance to look at Mahomes contract? It appears the contract he signed back in 2020 was voided and he got $56 million/year fully guaranteed starting this year through 2026. At that time, IMO the Chiefs are most likely going to have to pay him $65 or $70 mill.

Defense wasn’t good enough. As I’ve already said neither was anything else. That’ll be the story of this season unless the team miraculously over achieves.
As of right now I have grave doubts.

if You've already said something, it doesn't make it true. And saying it again doesn't change anything.

I predict you’re going to see a whole lot of games go like the previous two.
I believe this is a good team. In a vacuum. But once you look at their schedule and the better teams in the division/conference/league…we’ll I guess I spare you the broken record routine.

catching up here....
I think D is good but offense needs to give them more points and keep D on sidelines as long as possible sipping gatorade. haven't looked at T.O.P. TBH, but it feels a lot better then last year so far. numbers can prove or disprove that.
O-line effects everything else... we haven't been able to run (yet) and as stated above, that takes the Play Action pass away. I hope Pop plays and Thornton comes back from IR as we need some speed. I like the TE's and don't dislike the receivers, but we don't have a true #1. can we make do with several #2's/3's... sure, if we can run and also protect Mac for a few seconds.
Offense / O-line trying to get going against a string of tough D's too... .if we had an "easy" (relative) game or two to get in sync would probably help, but Jets and Cowgirls both have strong D's so gonna have to do whatever they can.

The NFL "encouraged" the Chiefs to rework his contract bc of the complaints coming in from the other owners about his previous contract. They used his falling status in the pay scale as their excuse for reworking it. His new contract is essentially a 3 year deal which allows the Chiefs to revisit and rework it as the Chiefs see appropriate.

I love it! You know all he talked about was how he was leaving money on the table ala Brady to help the Chiefs and BAM, highest paid QB again with a fully guaranteed 4 year deal. This must have been why they didn't pay Jones and now won't once this season ends.
