I remember I heard this one from a tape I borrowed from a co-worker, probably 30 plus years ago now.

Great song, I think I posted it on here right after this thread started. Jerry Jeff could really do these incredible ballads like no other.

Sorry to tread on your line. I loved tt. Love malaprop. So one of my own made-up Jokes from back in the day:


Senator Thurmond was lunching at his favorite Eastern Shore restaurant, And he orfered a plate of Oysters. Two reporters were in the booth across from him. The waiter forgot it was may, no r, and oysters had been 86'd. So he brought out a nice plate of cherry stones. Everydody up and down the entire midcoast KNEW he hated cherrystones yet he didn't say a word. Well, said one reporter, he's taking that pretty well, Give it a minute said the other, its just the clam before the Strom.

That's pretty good, actually. Because the joke is swapped letter order but not rhymed it probably didn't land quite right out loud, but I like it.

Reminds me a little of the "where were you when the fit hit the Shan?" joke.
