OT - Mormon Scum!

Yeah, I get ya, in my ass. Just messing with you. Or is manhood something you don't around with? My bad, sorry if I insulted you (if I don't get insulted by what you say of my God then I hope this doesn't bother you).

This was one of the questions I have about what we can and can't do behind the doors, but no way am I going to ask anyone in my church about this. I imagine no one there ever takes it there.

Just my experience that sometimes it almost works like the real opening, if you get my drift. Wetness and all (no, not nastiness). Weird stuff, it is.

I wasn't insulted. I thought you meant I was gonna use the lube on some foreign objects like cucumbers and double ended dildos. :D

As for the rest of your post, if things don't work out with your husband there's always a place for you here in Vegas. ;)

I just have to bury my girlfriend out in the desert first.

Ahem. (cough,cough) I...uhhhhh. Nevermind.

I've yet to get my brown wings, so I'll stay out of that discussion. It ain't happening at stately Hawg manor.

Anyway (not that anyone will care now), I was wondering if anyone besides me is watching "Big Love" on HBO?

The first episode was interesting, but a little slow. By the middle of the second I was hooked and now look forward to it. It is well done, quirky, thoughtful, non-judgemental and combines drama and subtle comedy in a setting that will be offbeat for most Americans, but that is a big part of it's appeal-- the rules are different out in Utah and all the people are.....well, different.

Bill Paxton plays a guy named Bill and he has all kinds of problems. His three wives are all very different people with their own issues, he has major problems with "The Prophet" -- who is his father-in-law and a creeping evil presence (with a 14 year old wife) and minor problems trying to build his business while keeping his ladies happy in the sack on a rotating basis with the help of viagra, his little blue friend. The man has a very full plate but maintains an upbeat attitude. He has to in the face of all that sex and they bang A LOT.

As far as how the show relates to Mormonism, practically everyone in thier area is Mormon and the family has to hide their polygamy from everyone for fear of prejudice or persecution-- which was not what I expected. It seems the vast majority of Mormons are not thrilled about the whole multi-wives thing.

The show presents some interesting contrasts like the dicotomy between the "simple" lifestyle vs. modern materialism and openly sharing the love of your spouse while battling the green-eyed demon of basic jealousy.

They try to blend in with their clueless suburban neighbors, while building their "holy family", raise up a big batch of youngsters and try to follow their beliefs as best they can. You root for them. They aren't freaks even though their choices would have many view them that way.

My experience watching it with my wife is that she expresses genuine curiosity about Mormonism/polygamy and that made me think of this thread more than once while watching.

I wouldn't know, but I would bet it would be quite a hit in parts of the country with a large Mormon community. Anyone, really. It's excellent.

Interesting, I'll check it out sometime. I don't have the movie channels on my direct TV cause in my experience we never ever watch them and it's a waste of like 50 bucks a month. Sure I'd watch Sopranos and some of the other original programming but it's not enough to justify the cost IMO. Anyway, I'll download them some time.

As far as "brown wings" remember women are more open to suggestion the more alcohol you get in them. ;)

I haven't seen the show but I know that they have made a big deal about the Mormon Church renouncing polygamy over 100 years ago, so I think you may get we look down on that. It's funny, we are all taught that certain things in are sin and no one should do them, but I think in my Church we look down on this the most.

Everybody makes their choices in life, ala free agency, but to do sin in the name of God is a big no no. There is a woman in church who was part of a polygamist family. She must be 80 years old, but it's not like I have talked to her or anyone else talks about it. My MIL was chating on the internet and met a Mormon from Utah and it was her son. She knows this lady having worked at the nursing home she lives in and he told her the story.

I don't know if she took off from it or the relationship faded away but that is the closest thing I know about polygamy and the church expect that it's a major bad.

There are some things that seem crazy when you first hear about them, but as you learn, they make more sense. (I said learn, not brainwashed).

And as for the brownwings, a lovely way of stating it, I was trying to find a way to talk of it without seeming to brag or like I am trying for attention. You can talk about sex, but once that is thrown in, it is a whole different story. I wasn't down with it until I got with my husband. It wasn't like he begged my or anything, it just happened, and well, the rest is history. It's a whole different world there. It's something that I/we really enjoy but at the same time I don't know if it's right or not. Am I going to ask anyone about it though? Um, no. No matter how much I enjoy it, I think that it is something that you keep quiet about. You guys are the first people I have ever talked with this about, besides my old man.

Well, you and whoever else in the internet world that reads this. Oh man. Can I delete my picture?

As to the original question, if I were given proof that God/Jesus exist and the Bible (whichever version turns out to be the "correct" one)were true then I'd accept it, to deny then would be illogical (although if everything I was taught is true it would be too late, so big bummer for me).

As to the other "question", what any adult couple choose to do willingly and without coersion or injury is between them and them alone. There are those who would call anything other than vaginal intercourse a sin because it doesn't result in potential procration. So, if it floats your boat, sail on.

I gather that this website is predominately Catholic. I don't know much of it, actually, but isn't all sex not meant for reproduction a sin? Is that why the use of birth control is taboo? I've also heard only missionary position is acceptable, is that true?

Yes, but it was the majority. I am surprised no one picked Jedi.

BIBLE

A little boy opened the big family bible. He was fascinated as he
fingered
through the old pages. Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible. He
picked
up the object and looked at it. What he saw was an old leaf that had
been
pressed in between the pages. "Mama, look what I found", the boy called
out." What have you got there, dear?" With astonishment in the young
boy's
voice, he answered, "I think it's Adam's underwear.

Ireland Worker Finds Ancient Psalms in Bog
By SHAWN POGATCHNIK, Associated Press Writer
Tue Jul 25, 10:56 PM

DUBLIN, Ireland - Irish archaeologists Tuesday heralded the discovery of an ancient book of psalms by a construction worker who spotted something while driving the shovel of his backhoe into a bog.

The approximately 20-page book has been dated to the years 800-1000. Trinity College manuscripts expert Bernard Meehan said it was the first discovery of an Irish early medieval document in two centuries.

"This is really a miracle find," said Pat Wallace, director of the National Museum of Ireland, which has the book stored in refrigeration and facing years of painstaking analysis before being put on public display.

"There's two sets of odds that make this discovery really way out. First of all, it's unlikely that something this fragile could survive buried in a bog at all, and then for it to be unearthed and spotted before it was destroyed is incalculably more amazing."

He said an engineer was digging up bogland last week to create commercial potting soil somewhere in Ireland's midlands when, "just beyond the bucket of his bulldozer, he spotted something." Wallace would not specify where the book was found because a team of archaeologists is still exploring the site.

"The owner of the bog has had dealings with us in past and is very much in favor of archaeological discovery and reporting it," Wallace said.

Crucially, he said, the bog owner covered up the book with damp soil. Had it been left exposed overnight, he said, "it could have dried out and just vanished, blown away."

The book was found open to a page describing, in Latin script, Psalm 83, in which God hears complaints of other nations' attempts to wipe out the name of Israel.

Wallace said several experts spent Tuesday analyzing only that page _ the number of letters on each line, lines on each page, size of page _ and the book's binding and cover, which he described as "leather velum, very thick wallet in appearance."

It could take months of study, he said, just to identify the safest way to pry open the pages without damaging or destroying them. He ruled out the use of X-rays to investigate without moving the pages.

Ireland already has several other holy books from the early medieval period, including the ornately illustrated Book of Kells, which has been on display at Trinity College in Dublin since the 19th century.

now is it the mormons that believe there are lost sections of the bible?

I hope so because this made me think of this thread.

Not really lost, per say, but more revelations from different people--ala the Book of Mormon. Don't other religions think that the Bible has had things left out or edited throughout time? There were some things that didn't get in there, and that isn't a Mormon point of view because I remember talking about it in my Christian chirch before I became LDS.

I read this article in the news and it was intriuging. About wiping out Isreal and of course all the turmoil going over there now. Repent, I say ye!

j/k

They think it is a fake, right? The article is kinda confusing to me.

It was Plates that were buried bot books like I originally thought

In the beginning of this book, there are 11 witnesses, all weren't Momon at the time, that said they had seen these plates and verified the authenticity of them. They couldn't have paid these guys off or talked them into it because everyone hated Mormons, but loved to kill them.

So, that's when this whole thing started to come together, when he found the buried plates in 1830's.
to quote Jheavner from earlier

I remembered something being buried and glanced through this quickly - wow I retained some information on mormon's and the background of the religion and I becoming one now? :D

I've been watching South Park for some strange reason lately and happened to catch the Mormon episode tonight. It was hilarious to say the least.

Please don't tell me the part about Joseph Smith reading the plates out of a hat is actually true. ROFL

Anyway you Mormon peops should try and catch it some time. Unless you're the type that will get totally pissed off at them poking fun at your religion.

On the plus side for you guys, it was no way near as out there as the Scientology crap. Still pretty out there though. :p

Found a video on Youtube that has all the applicable parts of the episode.

Okay I just watched the video for a second time because I was bored and this thought occured to me....

How do you get an entire ****ing book off of 4 plates?

I can take humor, so it's all good. I understand that it seems a bit out there because I thought the same thing up until 2 years ago.

No, it wasn't out of a hat, I'm not sure if they had to do it in the dark even, I didn't hear that. Surprisingly, the first parts are pretty accurate. And it wasn't 4 plates, it was just what the cartoonists drew. I believe it started out as many, many tablets and then it was transferred to the gold plates right before they were burried in the earth for latter days.

Yeah, it may seem a little kookie, but I agree with what the little Mormon boy says at the end. I think it's true, I hope it's true, and if not, I am living a great life because of it and I don't think JC could be mad at someone loving their family and being good to others as the Gospel centers around. JC is who we worship, he is our savior. We study the King James Bible, not some altered book. Yeah we have the B of M, but on every page there is at least one reference to JC and his goodness.

Joseph Smith was the first restored prophet there has been one ever since him in this church. I used to think this was the nuttiest part, but basically all they tell us is how to love more and get along in this mad, mad world. They don't try and get us to worship them or make us believe crazy off the wall stuff. Everything is based on JC and our Heavenly Father.

The Mormons I know, that have been in the church their whole life, are really that nice. Why not? Why do people have to be a-holes? I never got that. I was a "fiesty" chick in my day, but I was always nice, or tried to be anyway. These people haven't really had to face adversity because their familes have been living peacefully for generations and you can really see that it isn't a front when you talk to them and see how they raise their families. I think it's beautiful to see such love.

Nothing wrong with that. The kid at the end had it right when he said even if it was all bullshit it didn't matter because he had a great life/family. :thumb:

I'd check into the Hat and 4 plates thing. It wasn't that long ago so there are probably some accounts of the events that are outside of the mormon church. South Park usually gets their facts straight when they attack a religion.
