OT: What bands have you seen?

I've seen a ton of old school Death Metal bands. I used to do lights (and practice down the hall from) for Cannibal Corpse. Saw Entombed, Carcass, Cathedral, Obituary and probably 100 others. Buffalo was a hot bed for Death Metal in the early 90's. A lot bands came from there and played there. I wrote reviews for an underground 'zine and did security at a place called Randall's Studio.

We played several shows with bands like CC (this was in Buffalo if I remember correctly), Nile, Deicide, Vital Remains, and others, probably because of our harsh guitar sound (very Entombed-y).
Death Metal was never exactly my thing, though- you could appreciate the crazy talented chops and the heaviness, but it all sort of ran together for me. Incidentally, Bill Steer from Carcass was one of the very first people to ever write to me about the band (back when you wrote letters and traded tapes).

What fanzine did you write for? Remember Suburban Voice, and XXX (probably) and Look Again! (probably not) from Boston?

My last act of hijacking will be this, just because it is a crazy shot of our badass singer:

It was a local 'zine called From Below.
That's cool about Carcass. I saw them right after they put out their first CD with Entombed and they were freaking amazing! I've always been a big fan of the slow, heavy grind and they do it really well.

Where did you play in Buffalo? Had to be either Randalls or The Scrapyard. The Continental was almost strictly Punk Rock back then

Was never about the lyrics for me, it was about the arrangements. Sam Halen represented selling out to me, more of an attempt at crossing over into the pop market. They had a massive audience, no need for that.

Agreed. I saw VH in August, great show, lots of deep cuts. Give me the original every day off the week.

Thought I would bump this one up. Just saw Weezer at Red Rocks in Colorado. This was the second time that we had been there. We took a couple friends who had never seen the venue. What a killer (albeit short) show. They started out with one of their new songs before hitting a vast majority of their hits. It all seemed to end way too soon though and then they came out for an encore and only played one song. The highlight was probably their cover of Hey Ya by Outkast. Here's a video that they posted of their encore. The crowd was definitely into it.

Just saw Kongos at Foxwoods on Friday night (Oct 6).

Four brothers from South Africa. They're all pretty accomplished musicians; the bass player (Dylan Kongos) is on another level, though.

Terrific show.

Just saw the Foo Fighters for the fourth time last night. They definitely put on a show. Dave has something going on with his voice right now but he powered through it and they played for 3 hours. They had a few songs where they were able to give Dave's voice a break. Sunday Rain with Taylor on drums and doing the vocals then they brought the singer from The Struts back on stage and he and Taylor did their rendition of Under Pressure with Hawkins covering Bowie and Luke from the Struts covering Freddie Mercury. They also did a nice tribute to Tom Petty with a cover of Breakdown.

Foo rocks.

I’m stunned every year they aren’t mentioned to play the SB.

They have a great archive, super entertaining, and put on a phenomenal show.

We just bought tickets for Welcome to Rockville 2018. The show is in April in Jacksonville, there will be 50 bands and the festival closer are the Foo Fighters. I've never been a huge fan but I'm interested to see what kind of show they put on.

They have concerts on AxisTV. Live at Wembley was awesome. They’ve done a behind the album type thing with concert clips and background album development integrated throughout, a scene in particular walking down New Orleans streets with brass.

Grohl is a fascinating musical figure. From Nirvana to Foo, he’s a driving force. Seems as down to earth, grounded, and not-troubled as anyone in the biz.

We saw Foreigner last night. Not bad; can still play and sing.

I have seen both Billy Joel and “Weird Al” Yankovic, live in concert, eight times each.

They are my favorite performers and always put on an amazing show.

And, somewhat amazingly, both continue to go out on tour!

I saw them back in the hay days and they were great, their sound was just like it was on the album except for the guitar, it was a lot more powerful live.

I haven't been to a show in well over a decade and the last one I went to was BB King in Anchorage. That's when his health was starting to go south, he had to sit during the entire show but he was still awesome and I'm really glad I was able to see him before he passed away.

Late in the game on this one.. but

Metallica 5 times
Godsmack a couple
Disturbed
Five finger death punch
whitesnake
Ratt
Motley Crew
Tesla
AC/DC twice.. Angus was doing his thing near me and his sweat was flying everywhere. Kinda gross
Guns and Roses
Ozzy
I think there is more but i can't remember. Maybe it was the drugs and alcohol.

Some things have changed. Gramm can still belt out the tunes pretty well. When I saw them in Toronto back in the day I think I paid $25 for a primo ticket. Last night, it cost me almost $250 for a pair of tickets.

That sounds about right, it's crazy how the price of tickets have gone up.

I thought Gramm quit singing years ago due to a major throat issue? My wife bought one of their cd's a few months ago and I didn't see his name on the band list.
