Patriots 2025 head coach search

I'll go on record: I think Johnson will eventually probably be a fairly successful coach, but not in his first stop. I think he is best as a coordinator.
Agree. Phil Perry had an NFL.insider on his Next Pats podcast today who was praising Johnson as a coordinator, but also described him as introvert who would get chewed up and spit out by the media around here in about 90 seconds. Not ready, at least not in this type of market.

who do yall think it will be? Not who do you want it to be.

The media seems to think it’s Vrable.
Honestly, I want Vrabel. I wanted him to be the hire when BB got the axe. But I want him to come with awesome staff around him, which I think he'd be able to get with Maye in the building.

If they don't get Vrabel they had better hope they get Flores as a second choice. This team sorely needs a disciplinarian and if they can't find one, they might as well bring hopeless f##### Mayo back.

BB is an introvert at heart… 🤷‍♂️

He grew into what he is now currently from experience and tribulations. Like most anything, there’s nothing that can replace real life participation.

I think it's Vrabel and I think this might be how it happens...

Johnson's 3 hour interview is this morning, so we should see the announcement from the pats that the interview is concluded sometime this afternoon.

Then there will be nothing while the Patriots supposedly think over who its going to be.
It's already decided that it's Vrabel though and the deal is already negotiated.

Sometime tomorrow just before the pregame shows, it will be leaked that it's Vrabel. I'm guessing Schefter.

Then they can have the announcement and pomp and circumstance on Monday or Tuesday.

So my predictions are rarely accurate, but I thought I'd keep going with this one as it's panning out so far.

I'll be looking for some sort of leak from Schefter sometime today, I'm thinking 3 to 4 pm.

Why might Ben Johnson be good for the Pats?
For one thing he's not tied to any one system. He sees effective plays and he incorporates them into practices. They can be from college or the NFL, he doesn't care as long a play works.
To be efficient with limited practice time, he has incorporated the GoRout System (see below) in practices which is an enhanced communication system.

Here are some insights into play-calling strategies, particularly focusing on Ben Johnson's innovative approach:

  1. Adaptation to Opponent's Weaknesses: Johnson developed a better understanding of game planning from Adam Gase, focusing on attacking an opponent's weaknesses. This indicates his strategy involves tailored game plans that exploit specific defensive vulnerabilities.

  2. Integration of Modern Offensive Concepts: Johnson's influence in Detroit has been about transforming the Lions' offense into one of the league's best, showcasing his ability to integrate various modern offensive concepts. Web results mention different strategies like the Spread, Read-Option, Play-Action, Vertical, and Pistol Formation, which Johnson might incorporate to keep defenses off balance. His approach likely involves a mix of these to create a dynamic and unpredictable offensive scheme.

  3. Efficient Play Sheet Preparation: Johnson speaks about the preparation that goes into creating a play sheet, indicating his strategic depth in understanding how each opponent presents a unique challenge. This preparation suggests a meticulous approach to play-calling, where plays are selected and adapted based on thorough analysis of opponent tendencies and game situations.

  4. Play-Calling Innovation and Real-Time Adjustments: The mention of the GoRout system in related content points towards the importance of real-time communication and adjustments in modern play-calling. While not directly attributed to Johnson, this highlights the trend towards systems that allow for quick, secure, and effective play calls, which could be part of Johnson's strategy to maintain offensive fluidity during games.

  5. Focus on Player Involvement and Versatility: Johnson's approach seems to involve getting everyone involved on the offense, as seen from the comments by Amon-Ra St. Brown about his touchdown pass to Jared Goff. This strategy likely includes play designs that utilize the full range of players' skills, promoting versatility and unpredictability in the offensive game plan.

These strategies collectively suggest that Ben Johnson's innovative play-calling involves a deep understanding of opponent weaknesses, a versatile offensive playbook, thorough preparation, real-time adaptability, and maximizing player involvement. His success in turning around the Lions' offensive performance showcases his effectiveness in these areas.

The GoRout System explained. GoRout

here are the key benefits of the GoRout system:
  • Enhanced Communication: GoRout improves coach-to-player communication by providing real-time access to information through rugged wearable devices. This allows for immediate feedback and adjustments, enhancing coordination and execution on the field. For instance, it helps in relaying pitches, defensive plays, and positioning effectively.

  • Seamless Integration: GoRout's software is designed to work with existing technology, allowing coaches to import their playbooks or scout cards into the system. This integration ensures that teams do not need to redo their work, saving time and maintaining consistency in their strategic approach.
    How It Works
  • Real-Time Strategy Adjustments: Coaches can make real-time strategic adjustments based on game conditions or opponent's plays, providing a dynamic approach to gameplay which can be crucial for making tactical shifts during a game.

  • Competitive Advantage: By speeding up the signal calling process and ensuring timely delivery of play calls, GoRout provides a competitive edge. The system's ability to handle pitch clock additions and facilitate precise play execution gives teams an advantage over those without such technology.
    GoRout
  • Durability and Reliability: GoRout devices are built to withstand harsh conditions like high heat/humidity, snow, and rain, ensuring reliable performance in all types of weather. This durability is critical for maintaining communication integrity during games and practices in various environments.

These benefits collectively contribute to a more efficient, strategic, and responsive coaching environment, enhancing both practice sessions and game-day performance.

I’ll never forget that hit Welker took against the Steelers in…… maybe 08? 09? I thought he was dead. He’s a tough SOB.
