So, the other day I was listening to the NFL channel on Sirius and they had Paul Alexander on as a guest.
If you don't know who he is then a google search will show you that he is about as accomplished an OL coach as there has ever been. His most recent job was coaching
the Potsdam Royals in Germany, so I started wondering whether he'd be interested in a job here. I figured maybe he's too old or sick or has lost his passion for the game, but
that doesn't seem to be the case. He's 60 and projects young. I know he's not making much doing a weekly radio appearance with Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller, good as those guest spots are.
Then, I hear him talking about how he did a complete breakdown on how Justin Fields is getting such big yardage in rushing and it was fascinating stuff. He's very
innovative, opinionated, tough-minded and engaging. Funny, too. He's a motivator who has coached in the playoffs in 7 different seasons with the Bengals, Jets, Giants and Cowboys. He's been on the cover of SI and has coached numerous pro bowlers. He is a passionate football lifer and I don't understand why he doesn't have a job in the league now.
I doubt anything could happen during the season, but I think it would be great if Bill calls him and convinces him to coach for us. Pay the man what he deserves because it's
a great investment in the team.
I don't know what their relationship is like, but I'm pretty sure they know each other. Make this happen, please. Our present staff is not able to get guys squared away the way
that Dante could and that is exactly the person Alexander reminds me of. I'm convinced he can help us be better starting with day one.
Fuck, hire him now as a consultant and let him try to patch some of the holes.
I have heard him several times on the NFL Channel. Sounds really intelligent. Agree that it is weird that he isn't already in the league. Maybe he likes being on the radio and chasing grand kids?
Who knows.
