Patriots Offensive Line

Does anyone know what is going on with Trent Brown? BB said yesterday it was a "coaching decision" to leave him out.

What is going on there?
He has always responded best to the tough coaching he gets on the Patriots. Maybe he was dogging it a bit and needed a mental adjustment. :shrug-n:

The Patriots have had 34 negative plays from scrimmage the last 3 games. OLine penalties, sacks, and blown up rushes really are drive killers.

The OLine is the problem, not Mac Jones.

In seven games this season, Jones has been sacked 21 times on 9.7% of his drop backs. Last season, he was sacked 28 times in 17 games or just 5.1% of his drop backs. That 9.7 sack percentage puts Jones at No. 34. The only quarterback being sacked at a higher rate is Chicago’s Justin Fields (14.9%), who uses his legs to run out of the pocket.

On the six sacks surrendered on Sunday, Jones never held the ball for longer than 3.15 seconds. He was sacked on an average drop back of 2.84 seconds, which isn’t long enough to throw the ball in the NFL.”

David Andrews on the practice field today. Limited, but there. Little Albie Breer told us Sunday that Andrews likely died in the locker room in the fourth quarter.

Andrews is a tough SOB and this is much needed. Strange is a different player without Andrews. The OLine can’t allow Mac to get hit 14 times again in a game.

I was worried tat Andrews being at practice was a smoke screen.

Those thigh bruises are serious. Ask Cam Neely.

Patriots are worst in the leage in net penalties and in most holding penalties.
And 24 presnap penalties

I agree with this 100%.

I don't blame the messenger for delivering bad news when it's the right message. This team has been uncharacteristic of a BB team with respect to penalties. Those stats show what needs to be cleaned up. So in the 2023 draft we should be looking at linemen who have great ability and more specifically at the ones with the fewest penalties.

Last 4 games, Pats OLine stats

Minnesota: 3 sacks, 3 QB hits

Jets: 6 sacks, 8 QB hits

Colts: 4 sacks, 7 QB hits

Jets: 6 sacks, 8 QB hits

1. Watching the OLine and Strange in particular is especially relevant given the head scratching offseason move to let Karras, Mason, Thuney all go, then burn a 1st round pick on a guard who is overpowered by strong DLinemen.

2. The entire crappy philosophy to chase deep-ball WRs makes zero sense and was a total waste of resources to get Parker and Thornton, when your OLine cannot even protect your prized young QB for 3 seconds. So many sacks and QB hits, every week, will wreck a young QB both physically and psychologically in the pocket

Rinse, repeat…

Ad nauseum…
