A really, really good read. Short and to the point.

Here is a five-step plan for the Patriots to attack the 2022 offseason and build on this seasons’ successes:

1. Keep Mac Jones in the Weight Room and Get Him With Tom House ASAP (or at least the weight room. I have no issue with Mac's mechanics.)

2. The Hunt for Mac’s No. 1 Weapon: The Most Important Personnel Upgrade Moving Forward (We all see this need)

3. Make a Philosophical Decision About the Teams’ Scheme in the Front Seven (Evan packs a lot of knowledge in this segment)

4. Pay or Tag CB J.C. Jackson and Pair Him With Another Elite Man Corner (Playing a street FA won't work against most teams)

5. McDaniels’s Offseason Project: Install Elements of the Alabama Playbook (Sounds weird but it makes sense to use the spread with RPOs. IF Josh leaves why not bring Bill O'Brien, Bama's OC, back to Gillette?)

Lazar is in agreement with me.

No one is missing the D. We've been talking about it all year after every game. I expect BB sees it if we do. IBIT.
That's my concern, last season was no different, I think we were 25th in run D and despite Bill bringing in 4 new D lineman and getting Collins, Van Noy and Hightower back, here we sit at 24th in run D? If he couldn't improve it with 160 million to spend, how the hell is he going to do it this year with like 19 million?

Do you really expect Bill to do this? I ask because I don't think Bill looks at Agahlor as a failure and does see him as a #1. He is paying him a boat load of money. I mean he is not going to shell out the money for Adams or Godwin after paying Agahlor, Bourne, Henry and Smith. I desperately want this offense to be more dynamic with true speed guys who are versatile in the mold of a Samuels or any of the guys on the Cards. That is what this offense needs, more speed, more versatility to contend with the other elite AFC teams. I have been saying this since last offseason. Gone are the days where you can with with defense vs these high octane offenses. You have to fight fire with fire. I don't know, maybe Bill will surprise and go off script but I think the first 3 picks of the draft are going to be defense and I don't see a big FA splash at all like last year. My hope is they somehow keep Jackson.
It doesn't matter if he would or wouldn't, he can't, we simply don't have the cash to go after a top 10 WR unless we are not planning on fixing the run D. I know everyone wants that flashy WR, and there is no doubt Mac need more weapons, but I still think its a secondary priority to the D-line and LB's. I said in another response that the last two seasons we were 25th, and 24th in run D. You just can't compete with numbers like that.

That "19" million is more like 3 million per Miguel. You should listen to yesterday's Lazar show because he had Miguel on as a guest.

The last thing I'm worried about is the cap. There's plenty of room for BB to do what needs to be done. Saying bye to Hightower adds $10M or thereabouts. Just 1 example.
Contracts are made to manipulate the cap. There are so many ways to create more cap and even more ways to stretch the cap you have.

I don't disagree but my point was I am not sure if Bill thinks the skill guys are all that bad to begin with.

The last time I remember a true run stopping defense was with Vince in the middle, and before that Ted Washington. If you're not building your line around a couple fatties than all of your LBs better be able to run.

Yeah. We blew the wad last year. This off-season is about the draft. If it goes as well as last year than the team will be in decent shape. The rebuild is at least 2-3 years out IMO.

I listened to Miguel on with Lazar and it seems you are largely correct, although the Pats don't have great leverage with a couple of guys, i.e., Jonnu who
can't be traded with his contract as it is and coming off a lousy year with big guaranteed money next year, but there are tons of things we can do to greatly improve the cap from where it is
right now, which is next to nothing.

Miguel cited the example of the Saints who last year created 110M out of thin air. Put a bunch of number crunchers on it and things will square away a great deal.

I understand some of the principles of The Cap, but it's too much effort for my right-dominant brain to absorb more than an overview. The main point is that we aren't in
ideal shape, but the sky am not falling and Belichick didn't screw us permanently from going wild in FA last offseason. Which seems to be a commonly held view.

Without attempting to quote all of his ideas-- one move he suggests we could actually see is to sign J.C. Jackson to a deal with more guaranteed money than
Jalen Ramsey is getting with a slightly lower overall total. He feels this is doable with some relatively minor cap moves. A bold statement, but I've learned not to
doubt his predictions/guesses.

Well that's the best DT we've had, maybe ever, but the point is, we aren't winning the Super Bowl with a 23rd ranked run defense. In contrast lets take look at the fact that the Bills never punted the Wild card game. Now Mac and the offense were able to put up 17 points, had the defense stopped the Bills two or three times, and given the offense more opportunities, then that final score looks a whole lot different. I'm not saying we win but maybe the Bills instead of scoring 46 points are around 32 and we are at 27, the point being that by improving the Defense we are by default improving the offense.

I don't necessarily agree with this, but you may be right. If the right movers are made in terms of restructures, releases, FA acquisitions and the draft we will be fighting for the division again next season. I think the last month of the season took a lot of wind out of everyone's sales but we did make great strides this year, even overachieved.

We should just fire Bill and let Tommy Boys be head coach.
