Political Playground

Just make it a subforum of the AssClown forum, don't moderate it, and anyone who gets butthurt should probably not be there. :D

(Honestly, I don't care. While there was a lot of good shyte happening in PP, the argument spillover was a pain in the vBulletin.)
we have had post reports from the AC by people who chose to visit the place

some people just can not let things go from thread to thread or Sub-forum to sub-forum

That's just it...the problem wasn't the butthurt IN the political forum, it was the spillover that became the problem.

Honestly? I wish people could have controlled themselves better because I think it was a useful forum. If anyone can figure out how to keep the spillover from happening without excessive moderation (or ANY moderation, because we're not touching it with a ten foot pole), who knows.

But it's not happening for a while, if ever.
Suspensions and bans?

Suspensions and bans?

Then someone has to moderate - which the sentiment is that they do not want to moderate politics here.

Another thing is, picture the person or persons you think are the most volatile political posters here. Now picture them being suspended or banned for something they did in the politics forum. Do you think they'd serve their punishment and be quiet about it most of the time?

I don't. I can picture a few folks claiming the suspensions and/or bans were motivated by an opposing sentiment to their political views.

While that would not be the norm, for it to even happen once would burn my ass as a mod.

Yes I am aware of that. That is how forums have dealt with such things. It was just an answer to the question posed—not a recommendation for reinstating with that tool.
I don't know what is considered "heavy" moderation not being behind the layer. Particularly since I've seen it used elsewhere.

You're a mod?

BL12, I'm not trying to argue with you. I was in the middle of posting that before Anni and Mikie replied.

But based on your post to suggest banning and suspending, it appeared to me that you'd neglected to take into considering the one obstacle: they don't want to moderate politics.

Sorry if you felt like I came at you aggressively. Not my intention.

And yes, I am a double-secret mod. You'd better stay in line or the consequences will be dire and could include up to, but not limited to, one neg-rep.

I didn't get that or take it that way at all. Just a fyi.

Oh! Shiver me timbers here in pirate land. ;):pROFL

It was a fun forum. Being (likely) one of the few liberals here, it was fun to battle. Too bad, though. I know some of the mods want it very straight laced here and thats their prerogative, but I'll miss it.

Maybe someone should start a poll to see how many people want to keep the PF. Not that it matters cuz the PF is gone. Well it's in read only mode in the archives so technically it's not gone. Well damn you know what I mean lol.

There's a HUGE difference between straight laced and civil. Straight laced sucks. Civil is the way to go. I'm sure you can see the difference.

The political forum was neither of those two, nor was it ever going to be. It was one of the most disrespectful forums I've ever seen.

One person's "brings nothing to the table" is another man's "feast at the table" and another's "meal at the table" and another's "good enough to look." No need to look or eat if one felt it "brought nothing." I thought it was rough in there at first, until I used ignore judiciously. For a Mod though, it probably drained them too much.

Yes it did.

I have a feeling it's going to be even more of a PITA for them, monitoring and deleting every post where a forbidden topic gets mentioned.

Maybe not, though. There's a pretty good possibility that their workload drops drastically as the Planet activity declines.

Did you attend Juliards? ROFL

I can almost guarantee you that Planet activity will not decline. If by some stretch it does, then we'll deal with it. But we're going to give it time first.

In a way that forum was a microcasm of the anger some people have right now nationally. It was brutal and I tried to stay out of it and was called many colorful nicknames over there when I did make periodic visits.

I'm sure there are countless political message boards the regulars there can find to battle on. I'm cool with it although I am glad I got one last shot it. :)

That forum was hard enough to post in- it must have been a freakin' nightmare to try and moderate.

That being said, if you could manage to peer through the foliage of blind wrath, name-calling, generalization, exaggeration, and denigration, you could start to just make out the outlines of that rare and elusive species:
a person with an opposing political view who could make a point.

I didn't find it that hard.

If a topic didn't appeal to me at first glance, I just never clicked on it. If once I got inside it was something other than what interested me, I left.

I never had to resort to putting posters on "ignore," sending negative reps or PMs, and I wouldn't think of reporting a poster because my feelings got hurt.

Granted, my contributions as "Publius" were largely philosophical (libertarian small "l" and Austrian), or off-hand remarks intended to highlight a flaw or fallacy in an argument, so I didn't get deeply involved in debate with too many people.

Here is another thought...if the mods were so harried by the neg reps, PMs, sigs, and reporting......SHUT OFF THE FEATURES.

Although this board was light years ahead of patriots.com when it started, it did NOT have all the features we now enjoy, and it is NOT what made this place special. This board became what it was without rep, or casino cash, or sigs, etc.

Enforce basic conduct rules. Disable features like rep or PMs which were being abused. Doesn't seem too hard to me.
