Random Football News - 2024

Aaron Rodgers is skipping mandatory Minicamp for the first 2 days to attend an "event important to him". His head coach said it was an "unexcused absence" and that he would be fined (about $50k), despite him telling the team about it ahead of time.

So his tenure as a JETE is off to an outstanding start!!

Also, Hassan Redick is also skipping. He wants more $$$.

smart coaches and gms have to figure out how to make this position more fungible. it's the only position where utterly mediocre players earn like the best ones.

It really is crazy that Lawrence would be given a contract at the very top of the market. Wtf has he done? He's won a playoff game. The same could be said about
Herbert's $52.5M/.

50 games played - 20 wins, 30 losses.
58 TDs, 39 ints.
Terrible, no?

Sure, Doug Pederson helped him attain good stats but then he got injured. Again. Don't we expect teams to study his '23 tape and defend it better in '24?

OTOH, what choice did JAX have? Every new contract for a franchise QB will exceed the one before it. Besides, the cap is exploding the next 2-3 years and QBs have been stealing cap money from the RBs for 3 years now. That's the market and Purdy and Love are waiting their turns happily.

In 3 years this contract's dollars may look like a bargain or it could look like an albatross.
Regardless, everyone knew this was coming.

My favorite part is of this contract is that his huge $142M signing bonus is making Kraft squirm and sweat.

if Imma reading between "your lines" correctly there, chevs --- you are suggesting that RKK is worried about Drake Maye in about 4 years raiding The Kraft Family Bank & Trust - Foxboro Branch.....ammIrite?

that will be Jonathan's (Combustible Jon ®™© 2024 ShankShaughnessy. All Right Reserved) problem

Jon'l probably work out something with General Mills and get Maye on a Weaties box endorsement deal to help defray a windfall signing bonus whilst making bank on churning out the packaging in the ol' family box factory at the same time

Now every NFL team will be motivated to follow the Falcons' lead and tamper with impunity.

Imagine tampering with 3 players and signing a 1st round franchise QB for a 5th round pick and $250K. Every GM will be in on that.
