I've mentioned elsewhere that I think the Patriots should be in discussions with the Commanders for draft day trades.

The Commanders have only six picks in 2026, and didn't make any trades prior to yesterday's deadline. They are projected to have a fair amount of cap space, so they'll be active during free agency, but they should also be willing to stockpile draft picks by moving down. Given their schedule and the current state of their roster, it's difficult to see them winning many more games this year, so they could be picking in the top eight. And given the emphasis teams have been putting lately on QBs, WRs, and CBs, that means one of the top three offensive linemen should still be on the board when the Commanders pick.

The Patriots should be able to get an oline anchor in 2026 if that's their priority heading into the draft.

Cowboys 2nd year DL Marshawn Kneeland died suddenly overnight. No cause of death at this time. Far too young at age 24.


Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Marshawn Kneeland died early Thursday morning, the team announced. He was 24.
"It is with extreme sadness that the Dallas Cowboys share that Marshawn Kneeland tragically passed away this morning," the Cowboys said in a statement. "Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization. Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family."
Kneeland's agent, Jonathan Perzley, said in a statement, "I am shattered to confirm that my client and dearest friend Marshawn Kneeland passed away last night. I watched him fight his way from a hopeful kid at Western Michigan with a dream to being a respected professional for the Dallas Cowboys. Marshawn poured his heart into every snap, every practice, and every moment on the field. To lose someone with his talent, spirit, and goodness is a pain I can hardly put into words.
"My heart aches for his family, his teammates, and everyone who loved him, and I hope they feel the support of the entire football community during this unimaginable time. I ask that you please give his loved ones the privacy and compassion they need as they grieve this tremendous loss."
The NFL said in a statement, "We are deeply saddened by the tragic news of the passing of Cowboys' Marshawn Kneeland. Our thoughts and prayers are with his girlfriend Catalina, family, friends and his teammates. We have been in contact with the Cowboys and have offered support and counseling resources."
Kneeland was selected by the Cowboys in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Western Michigan. In 18 games played (four starts), the defensive lineman had 26 tackles, four QB hits, one sack.
In Monday night's loss to the Cardinals, Kneeland recovered a blocked punt in the end zone to get the Cowboys back in the game in the second quarter. It was his first career touchdown.

Whoa. I think everyone will be watching with interest to see what is determined for cause of death.

Reports indicate that he was fleeing the scene of an accident and then shot himself. The first thing that comes to mind is CTE.

Police in a Dallas suburb say 24-year-old Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on Thursday morning after evading authorities in his vehicle and fleeing the scene of an accident on foot.
Frisco police said Thursday they are investigating a possible suicide. They said Kneeland didn't stop for Texas Department of Public Safety troopers in a chase that was joined by Frisco police on Wednesday night.
Authorities lost sight of the vehicle before locating it minutes later. During the search after Kneeland fled, officers received word that Kneeland had shown suicidal indications.

It's a sensitive topic but I hope that the family chooses to donate his brain so that they can decide whether CTE was present. I believe that is still the only way to diagnose it is post mortem.

You remember the young Bengals receiver, Chris Henry, who died when he fell from a pickup truck? His family donated his body for research, and when they saw his brain, they were shocked. It was like pate apparantley.

Henry died on December 17, 2009, when he fell out the back of a moving truck after having a domestic dispute with his fiancée. An autopsy revealed that Henry had developed chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) during his playing career due to repetitive hits to the head. Because CTE can only be definitively diagnosed in an autopsy and Henry was still active in the NFL when he died, Henry represented the first case where an active player had died and could be diagnosed with CTE.

I was happy when Kraft sent this POS packing after 1 game even though TFB wasn't. Tom learned later that mad dogs turn on even the kindest owners.
 
Could never understand why Brady was such a proponent of Antonio Brown. That seemed very out of character for him.
