Random football stuff 2025

Current standings have the Bills as the 7th seed. The Chiefs, even with their win, are now the 10th.

Next week's Bills @ Steelers game is a must win for both teams, because the Chargers and the Jaguars (:barf:) are probable winners.

The same is true for the Chiefs @ Cowboys - the loser is likely playing golf in January.

Go Cowboys and Steelers! :barf:

I know the vikings are playing the seahawks today, so there's that angle, but I find it interesting that tom pelissero reported this morning that the vikings didn't just let sam darnold walk. They actually made him a similar offer to the one that he signed with the seahawks.Although the seahawks were offering three years and the vikings were offering one year. I wonder who *vikings cough*cough*would want this to come out right now when the quarterback, they chose over darnold is playing really shittily.
My opinion of it has always been that they should have franchised darnold.

The Cowboys did their part by beating the Chiefs, and we'll know in a few hours the outcome of the Steelers-Bills game.

The problem with draft picks in the first and second round is that teams think of those players as significant investments and are loath to give up on those players, even when all the on-field evidence is that the player (for whatever reason) isn't succeeding.

Sometimes it's a bad fit (like Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones in the NY market and on bad teams), sometimes the player just can't make the jump up in level.

Minnesota is dealing with this now - they got the benefit of seeing what a change in scenery did for Darnold, and they have to be wondering, if they should cut/trade McCarthy, whether he'll be successful somewhere else, and if that happens then will their organizational reputation suffer.

Well, I have the answer for them - don't worry about your reputation. No one thinks highly of the Vikings.

So Abdul Carter was suspended for the 1st quarter on Monday night because he got caught watching porn in coaches meetings.

Not something I expected to hear.

I suppose no scout asked him about watching porn while being coached at Penn State?

I guess that was fake. He was late to a meeting, repeated offense.

The NFL is mandating new (safer) playing surfaces be installed before the '28 season.

Each NFL stadium will have to install a new playing surface by the start of the 2028 season to meet standards set through lab and field testing.

NFL field director Nick Pappas detailed the plans for the program on Thursday that will provide each team "a library of approved and accredited NFL fields" before the start of next season. Teams will then have two years to install the new approved playing surfaces, whether they are grass, synthetic or a hybrid.

Far be it from me to be cynical about the n f l's motives(🙄🤣), but I certainly hope they are working with trainers and players and things like that to find out what their concerns are.And I certainly hope they're not getting any kind of kickbacks.

I doubt he ever plays a meaningful snap for the Browns.
Look at this from the Browns' FO pov. They have an insurance policy that will pay his entire 2025 salary for injury but need to see that good faith efforts were made to get him on the field. That insurance payout would be paid after the '25 season and would be applied to cap space for 2026.

It's apparent to me the Browns intend to release him post June 1st and take the $53M cap hit, a similar cap hit the Broncos ate with Russell Wilson.
The insurance payment would offset the cap hit for releasing him, leaving their cap space pretty much intact.

The Browns have still suffered plenty for that crazy contract, so don't worry about that. Only 1/2 his salary was insured. They have already eaten about $118M that wasn't insured.

Good info on that insurance policy, thanks.Maybe that's why they're so interested in pimping that he might be the starter next year.

I don't think insurance affects the cap.
