Former Niners QB John Brodie, 1970 NFL MVP, dies at age 90

John Brodie, who won the NFL MVP award in 1970 and later played on what is now the PGA Tour Champions, has died at age 90.

When I first started following football, it was watching the afternoon games - many times it was the 49ers and Brodie playing the Packers or the Cowboys. The 49ers were my second team during those days.

The obit doesn't mention it, but after his retirement he went into TV and did a fair job as the expert analyst.

Gained a whole lot of respect for Cassel with this story.

Also it doesn't surprise me he was handcuffed by Haley's terrible leading.

The Cook's catch is not a catch.

But I fully expected to hear "did not survive the ground " rule on the Kupp catch.

Kupp made clear "football" moves. Cook did not.

While the rules are ambiguous and should be clarified, this isn't proof of anything since they're different plays. Had Cook caught the ball standing, extended the ball and lost it then it would be comparable. But alas they're similar category but different plays.

Doesn't surprise me a Bills fan will look for any reason to bitch and moan, though. They're quite good at it.
