Random Football Stuff 2026

I don't blame Kyle Shanahan one bit for being salty about McVay lobbying the NFL to schedule the 49ers in Australia against his Rams to avoid 9er fans in SoFi.
Turnabout is fair play.

“I’m requesting them in Mexico. Not that it gives us an advantage, but it’s fair to make them go out of the country twice too.”

Jed York, 49ers owner, said he would love 2X Pro Bowler Brandon Aiyuk to play for the team this year.

“Would love to bring [Aiyuk] back into the fold and, if not, he is a valuable asset that other people would want,” York said.

This is after GM John Lynch and HC Kyle S. said Aiyuk has played his last snap for the 9ers.

Strange situation all around. What happened?

Many teams are mortgaging their future by using 'void years' as a way to put off costs for players into future years. The problem with that is that those costs become dead money once the
contract ends. The piper always gets paid. The Patriots have $0 in voidable contracts.

Just looking at those numbers, I'm thinking Eagles G.M. Howie Roseman is retiring after the 2028 season :coffee:
or maybe he'll just have a "health scare" and take some time off before making a a recovery before the 2031 season

All that money in voidable contracts is scary, isn't it? Doing those allows teams to lengthen their SB window. That's why those teams are doing it. When the window finally shuts, it slams down hard. And what happens when the cap doesn't rise as much as it has over the past 3 years? Disaster.

York might be saying that for legal purposes. In some labor/contract disputes sometimes there needs to be evidence that one side still wants the other to perform, considers the services valuable, etc., because that is the value the court will evaluate when considering potential damages. Presumably there's something parallel for arbitration/league adjudication?

Just a thought.

I hope it helps. He clearly appears to be spiraling. Would hate to see an incredible talent like Puka fizzle out. I'm rooting for him.
Me too. I'm glad he is getting help.

Or the possibility no one's really talking about:

They're shopping #1 overall and aren't taking Mendoza.
Could be but Cousins is not "that guy" anymore ...
